"As for their health code violations, some of them are just strange."
Additionally, there is a human element at work in the world of city inspections. I have seen some kitchens in town which made me question if they had ever been inspected(bad enough that I would never consider eating there again) . There are other restaurants that seem to get the "fine tooth comb" treatment, which sometimes calls into question whether someone is mad at a particular owner/operation. Any chance someone might be mad at Joe?

can't help that they are in the government district.... health officials are probably going in there all the time to get a slice
KC Region is all part of the same animal regardless of state and county lines.

I always figured health inspectors would be soft on places they like and frequent. If you ate someplace on a regular basis would you really want to go through a detailed inspection. Plus if you ever cited them, you could never go back , lest someone wipes their ass with your pizza crust before serving.ComandanteCero wrote: can't help that they are in the government district.... health officials are probably going in there all the time to get a slice

I know they changed owners on Nov. 1. Maybe they're "remodeling"?

Re: Tarantino's?
I tried to go on Veterans Day, and there was a sign that said "Closed for Veterans Day."
I went back the next day and finally sampled ignatius's prized mushroom/sausage/basil calzone...
Scratch that. I think I mistakenly ordered spinach instead of basil. If not, the basil sure was spinach-y, which was my biggest complaint. That and the cold tomato sauce for dipping.
Now I need to go back.

^Last two calzone's I've had were not particularly up to par. They've changed the dough and it's not as light and crisp.
I do hope they can get back on track.

Went by there today, there was a "Retail Space For Lease" sign up in the window.

Damnit. Now I'll have to settle for the second best calzone in Kansas City. (Which for me alternates between Minsky's and Cafe Al Dente depending on whether I am in the mood for bready or crispy.)
I guess that frees up a photo speed dial slot on the main menu of my phone.
