POWER AND LIGHT DISTRICT (it's alive!!!!!)
It appears Cordish has changed the name of the Kansas Live! Project back to the orginal Power and Light District. There is an adevertisment for the P&L District in current issue of ULI (around pages 30-35). This is an improvement since all of Cordish's other projects are called Hoboken Live!. What are your thoughts???????

I don't know about this....especially since the project doesn't really include the P&L building at all.
I would think they would want to avoid that name and it's negative context in the area.
But it is better than Kansas City Live!

I didn't mind Kansas City Live! It was cool that the name of our great city was in the name of the attraction.
Whatever it is called, it'll be cool.

It's a better name, but it also has a lot of political baggage. However, the new plan is really similar to the original P&L plan and a lot of people have already been referring to it as P&L II or Son of P&L. By the way, the first plan didn't include the Power and Light Building either. The owners didn't want to be included, and Centertainment was unsuccessful in getting it condemned.

A few PR dollars should fix that...KCPowercat wrote:they are overall pretty dumb
Overall I like the "Power & Light" District name...P&L has a much better ring...There will be the crazies out there who will try to raise a stink, just a matter of time.

Had Stan Durwood not died suddenly, anyone think we'd be close to the opening of a nearly-finished Power & Light District 1 about now?

I don't think so. It was seriously stalled and/or behind schedule before Durwood died. The Centertianment developers had virtually zero experience in this type of project. The city made them bring in an experienced partner once become appareant that Centertainment didn't have much idea of what it was doing. Durwood might have been able to get something built through sheer force of will and wealth, but it's questionable if it would have actually been a success.scooterj wrote:Had Stan Durwood not died suddenly, anyone think we'd be close to the opening of a nearly-finished Power & Light District 1 about now?

I like Power & Light.... sounds cool as heck. I hope to see lots of neon and art-deco architecture.

POWER AND LIGHT DISTRICT (it's alive!!!!!)
At work today, a guy came in with a "Power and Light Live!" logo on his baseball cap. The back just said Kansas City, Mo. I asked him where he got it and he said that his brother was working on the project in KC and got it for him. Not groundbreaking news, but it caught me off guard to see someone with a P+L Live hat.

It is better the power & light district because it makes the name more unique from other similiar Cordish projects in the past like; 4th street Live, and power plant Live. It ties it better into Kansas City History.
