Restaurant review: Vinino a wilting experienceBeermo wrote: just got done reading lauren chapin's review of vinino. she scorched the place. totally. napalmed it. she definetely didn't didn't like the place.
one and half stars for the food. yahooz in OP recently got three. ouch! That’s not to say Vinino doesn’t have potential: the menu items sound inviting; the staff is friendly, if slightly unpolished; and the weekday lunch flight (soup, Caesar salad, half panini or half pizza) is a great deal at just $9. But somewhere between concept and delivery, things went off the tracks during a dinner and two lunch visits.

Yea, read it myself. Sounded like she even liked it less than she let on. The comments in the Star are an interesting read (this time). Sounds like many have had similar experiences there. Well, it makes my decision on which of places to try in P&L District come summertime that much easier.Beermo wrote: just got done reading lauren chapin's review of vinino. she scorched the place. totally. napalmed it. she definetely didn't didn't like the place.

Re: Vinino
I've been told that Vinino has a new chef that's completely redone the menu and it's supposed to be significantly better now.

Re: Vinino
The new chef is Marshall Roth, who used to be over at the Hotel Phillips. I haven't eaten at Vinino since he has taken over, but the menu doesn't look that much different. We already tried it twice and I don't think I'll ever eat there again.KCFan wrote: I've been told that Vinino has a new chef that's completely redone the menu and it's supposed to be significantly better now.

I thought they brought Marshall Roth on in December or January.KCFan wrote: I've been told that Vinino has a new chef that's completely redone the menu and it's supposed to be significantly better now.

If they don't do something, Vinino will be the first casuality in the P&L District.
There is no fifth destination.

Re: Vinino
It just doesn't seem like much effort was put into the concept to begin with - generic decor, generic menu, nothing really interesting - that's kind of hard to recover from no matter how much you try and juggle the personnel/menu after the fact - especially when you are talking about a restaurant that is surrounded by lots of competitors with very narowly defined concepts and unique draws.

Personally, I feel that it's out of place with the concepts surrounding that particular block. Wouldn't one of the Bice concepts compete with this place?

Re: Vinino
Haven't been to P&L district so here is the question. Are McFaddens, Vinino and a few other similar places really restaurants with a bars or bars with a restaurant? Yes, it is possible to succeed with both functions but I would imagine that it would be harder to do.LenexatoKCMO wrote: It just doesn't seem like much effort was put into the concept to begin with - generic decor, generic menu, nothing really interesting - that's kind of hard to recover from no matter how much you try and juggle the personnel/menu after the fact - especially when you are talking about a restaurant that is surrounded by lots of competitors with very narowly defined concepts and unique draws.
I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Re: Vinino
They're huge, so it's a tough call. There's a good sized bar part, but the restaurant-only tables are plentiful as well.

They canned Roth three weeks into the job, he's not even in Missouri anymore.KCLofts wrote: The new chef is Marshall Roth, who used to be over at the Hotel Phillips. Re: Vinino
went in for lunch today, alone, hoping for some sort of reprieve... FAIL.
service was prompt, but the chicken panini i had was pretty bland. cashew makes one 10x better. i'd put it on par with the chicken panini at perk up, which is $3 cheaper.
at least there was no wait right at noon.

The pizza's are actually very good. They have added deep dish to the mix. Still hit and miss on overall offerings.
