Re: 1822 Main Redevlopment
It would be less hard to take if the replacement building facade was unique in some way.
One design element can liven up an otherwise bland building.

Demolition starts this month, with the goal clearing the site by early March.

Copaken plans to add 2-stories to this and 29 more apartments.
If this weren't a previously approved project, I would be opposed to it because Copaken brought down the Imperial Brewery and will take down the bank building on this site (a building of high-merit). Copaken-Brooks... a history of destroying KC and tossing up tasteless junque. Of the three buildings they've built in the Crossroads, this will be, by-far, the biggest eyesore of them all. Plop it in Murmansk or one of those Chinese "new cities" where it belongs.
More from Thomas Friestad...

https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/ ... rt-kc.htmlDuring a Monday meeting of the Port Authority of Kansas City's development committee, the Kansas City developer discussed several changes made to its project at 1818-1822 Main St. since it won city plan approval in October.
Now, Copaken proposes 29 more units, for 147 in total, in a building two stories taller. The larger project size, plus increased construction costs, drove a higher $48.1 million project cost and a resulting request for a bigger Port KC bond issuance as a conduit for incentives. The port committee on Monday recommended that request.

Unattractive building, but 2 more floors and 29 additional units on the streetcar line is a plus. Too bad the developer cannot see the goodwill they could gain by saving that small bank facade

Could be totally wrong here, but does adding more units have anything to do with the fact Royals suddenly decided to move like 2 blocks away from this site?

Excited for this increase in density. Not excited for construction.

Yes, not every building should be an architectural wonder, but that doesn't mean we should toss up a hunk of crap that can't be eliminated from the Crossroads skyline once complete for years to come. It'll be a stain on the skyline wherever it's visible from. Arterra and Reverb are masterpieces compared to this.

Re: 1822 Main Redevlopment
I’d say the real stain is that the crossroads is so underdeveloped and low rise that a mere 12 story building can dominate its skyline. If you don’t like it, bury it!

Fence is because shit was falling off of that facade. Regardless, demolition is coming soon.

Isn't demoing it considered ground breaking?
