It should be messaged before hand that we would have a good shot, at least, at a Super Bowl. They did this the last time we updated the stadium and it should be a necessity.

^I agree. I don't understand why we can't think bigger than either the Truman parking lot or the Legends complex. It's infuriating.

Nashville isn't nearly as brutal on an average February; KC would have to build a climate-controlled stadium if it wants to host a Super Bowl.

Yep. Climate controlled with a retractable roof to leave open at the beginning of the season. I’d put it in Harlem with a streetcar across the Broadway Bridge to connect to it. If that bridge can hold ten semis going across it, I don’t understand why it can’t hold a streetcar and linear park instead. NKC builds up and we start building up the riverfront even more. TSC is stupid.

Although I’m ok with TSC tbh. Football doesn’t need to be downtown.

They will not be building an enclosed football stadium. Thank god, that trend is slowly dying and football is being played in the environment it's supposed to be played in. Buffalo's new stadium is a prime example of what a new arrowhead may look like. Fans would be somewhat protected from snow/rain but won't be enjoying 72 degree temps in January.beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 9:03 amYep. The chiefs are like the Bills and Packers who take pride in some classic games that were impacted by snow. I've never been to a domed or covered football stadium that felt anything remotely like the atmosphere you get outdoors.

People falsely assume that the clime-controlled aspect for super bowls is all about the game itself. It's a factor but all the other things that go along with the Super Bowl are just as important. You need a ton of outdoor space for dozens and dozen of activations. Going to a Super Bowl is a full experience. Most people are spending multiple days in the city and take in all the city and event has to offer. That's very hard to pull off in a cold, snow covered city!

I'd argue KC is a better World Cup host than Nashville...and of course, I'm biased. With the soccer culture being developed here that has far outpaced anything soccer-related in Nashville, KC was the right choice as a host. And that does not factor in all the additional reasons KC has been selected as a host.normalthings wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 1:34 amNashville stadium is a great location for big events. would have been a better WC host candidate than KC overall. The 2011 Super Bowl in Dallas was a miserable experience that NFL executives and journalists still talk about. Then the New York (or I guess technically New Jersey) Super Bowl in 2014 only narrowly missed a huge winter storm. That snow ended up canceling a quarter of the flights available at the area's three major airports, which stranding thousands.
Would kill for a Super Bowl in KC, but the potential climate will absolutely play a factor.
Hot take: the NFL draft will be a better KC experience than a Super Bowl would be. Better weather which means more outdoor activities and people walking around the town. Plus then the fountains will actually be on in the "City of Fountains"

Its hard to buy that Nashville isn’t a better event hosting city then Kansas City. Location of their stadium is ideal for future hosting of WC/Final4/etc. sure soccer culture but when you can import and house an unlimited number of fans local soccer support matters a whole lot less.Link2 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:50 pmI'd argue KC is a better World Cup host than Nashville...and of course, I'm biased. Nashville:
Air: bigger airport, more flights, more destinations, just as new/newer
Ground: stadium is walking distance to downtown hotels and entertainment
Hotels: more rooms, nicer & newer
Stadium: not as nice but hope to replace by WC

I kinda like the Harlem idea, it's central and wouldn't require tearing down anything worth saving.beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 9:03 amYep. Re: New Chiefs Stadium
Yeah, I understand those points. We are fortunate that KC scored much higher than Nashville in many bid areas not listed above. But also we are so fortunate the KC area has invested $1.5 billion over the past decade in amateur and professional sports facilities; most other cities in the bid cannot compete with our training facilities. That played a significant role in our bid.normalthings wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 3:25 pmIts hard to buy that Nashville isn’t a better event hosting city then Kansas City. Two biggest cock blockers in the city surround Harlem. That's why it's still in the state it's in.

Meaning the airport and the railroad?
What about this spot?
You're probably right. Especially because it is in Clay County, not Jackson County. But if I'm dreaming, an NFL stadium would be my dream use for this area. Such a cool front door to Downtown KCMO

Not about the location but building height and access. Also, there are some seriously bad-smelling manufacturing plants down there.

if arrowhead were to move, why not along the riverfront like the new KC Current stadium. it's close to downtown (although not walkable) for access but isolated enough to not be a drain on downtown vitality.

Re: New Chiefs Stadium
I don't know if there's a specific law that states how far a stadium must be from an airport, but Vegas has the closest stadium to airport distance at just under 4 miles. Sofi is similar. Both are obviously much busier airports but let's assume 3.5 miles is the distance. That puts much of downtown out but interestingly enough, East Village is only 2.5 miles away.
There was a lot of concern about terrorist threats with the Sofi stadium location.

The whole article is pretty nuts and worth a read. I want Mo to legalize sports betting but let’s not give up the farm here folks. The location was already a sports and entertainment hub. Sporting Kansas City’s stadium was there. So were the NASCAR racetrack and the Hollywood Casino.
Another 400 acres of land there were controlled by a company called Homefield LLC, whose owners included executives with Sporting Kansas City, according to property and corporate records. Those executives were drawing up plans to use the 400 acres for a sports and hotel complex.
Just before the 2020 election, Homefield and a network of related companies routed tens of thousands of dollars in contributions to Mr. Ryckman and other legislative leaders, according to campaign disclosures and corporate records. The sums were especially impressive in a state where House lawmakers can take no more than $500 in the general election from any one donor.
The creation of a major new stadium in the area had the potential to make Homefield’s property more valuable. Homefield executives including Robb Heineman pushed state officials to include the stadium fund, according to lawmakers and Mr. Heineman.
None of this information was disclosed during the legislative debate. The provision was the product of “a background deal that wasn’t even talked about with other Republicans,” said Representative Paul Waggoner, a Republican from Hutchinson. “It is pretty disillusioning, frankly.”
Mr. Heineman denied that the campaign contributions were intended to influence legislation. He said that Homefield didn’t plan to tap into the stadium fund. But he said his partners at Sporting Kansas City will “think of ways that they could utilize this tool
