The one in Blue Springs had Traffic Directing everything, also Social Media and things like that was limited so the buzz was limited to the newspaper or local newsSani wrote: ↑Thu Mar 25, 2021 8:13 amWait, there was a big fanfare here when Jack in the Box came to town??brewcrew1000 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 11:08 am This will probably end up being like jack in the box. Huge fan fare in the beginning then just tapers off. Whataburger is like a slightly better sonic. The only thing worth going for is the breakfast taquitos but it's only served at certain hours

Blue Springs is just Olathe in Missouri. They lost their crap for Dunkin too, even though there were many less than 15 miles away.

Am I being too jaded by getting annoyed at the level of media coverage a fast food franchise opening is getting? There has to be something more interesting going on in the city to spend air time on.

Re: Whataburger
Surburban KC does seem to be more into fast food chains than other places. But in this case it's probably the Mahomes hype.

I don’t like it either. That’s what having corporate PR that sends probably multiple press releases will do though. Journalism is dead so it’s one less actual story to go find.

Re: Whataburger
You shouldn’t be mad about the coverage in KC if you feel like it’s because nothing else is better to do here. This is perfectly normal. White Castle in Orlando had the same thing, the In-N-Out in Colorado had the same coverage there, etc. It’s very normal when an exclusive brand comes in.longviewmo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 12:17 pmI don’t like it either. Re: Whataburger
I still don’t get why so many “urbanists” or whatever are being so critical and butthurt about the Whataburger lines. People trying to act like “this proves what’s wrong with KC” when literally you see the same thing or worse when Denver and Orlando and other *bigger* cities added chains like this. This isn’t unique to KC. Anytime any city adds a chain like that, the lines are crazy. Again, this doesn’t mean “see, KC has problems, look how many stupid people wait in the line!”
Getting Whataburger is a nice add, it’s a very popular chain that’s only in a handful of places. It’s a pretty big deal to get one if you’re not in Texas.

I remember when the first Sonic opened in Chicago (Batavia). You couldn't get close to it for months.

It’s nice that a chain decided to move into the KC market. I question using “exclusive” as an adjective but whatever. Could care less about where it is in town as well. I think it’s the blatant marketing that our media is essentially giving out free (?) ad time by covering it.
