Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I am pleasantly surprised that this got through Council. It sounds like there was still some neighborhood opposition and this plan really wasn't scaled back that much from the one that was denied. Chalk one up for the YIMBYs. This rendering that focusses on the green space and makes the building appear smaller might have helped.

Re: 4400 Washington
The remaining structures on this lot have been demolished and it looks like site prep is in progress.

Re: 4400 Washington
Does anyone know what is being done to the Broadway Medical Building on the SE corner of 44th and Washington?

Re: 4400 Washington
I have a doctor in that building - a mock-up in the entryway shows exterior renovation with more contemporary finishes. Will be much better than the starkness of the current brick but nothing earth-shattering.

So do they lean over the street like that, or has somebody been drinking?

Great infill project. This area really needs a bodega/some retail. It is dense enough to support it.

Re: 4400 Washington
I never understood the purpose of this project, refacing the existing building. The red brick facade was fine and looked better than this. Were there structural or leaking issues within the brick mortar? It looks very Overland Park bland beige.

This project and 2 Cleaver Boulevard are both horrible remodels.

Re: 4400 Washington
I've run into suburban people here (from Olathe and Lee's Summit) who think red brick equals ghetto. Literally stating it out loud. Perhaps the decision makers for these two buildings are from the sterilized exburbs.

Re: 4400 Washington
Our pediatrician is in that building, and it has been renovated both inside and out...and the inside was in pretty bad shape. While red or dark brick on the outside may not be horrible, on the inside it was dark and depressing. I don't mind the exterior materials - the building looks less like a fortress.

Re: 4400 Washington
The light brick was added to align with the facade of the rest of Saint Luke's facilities. I presume they received a tenant allowance of some kind when they leased the space.
