Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand
So is this video board the quality of the one in KC Live?
In the event the park deck gets built over 670, I could see that as another place to hold watch parties, etc.

Outdoor smallest is 1.9.StrangerThings wrote:No, not even close to the same quality. The screen in kc live is a 3mm (1.9mm is as good as it gets right now) and the billboard style screen on 2L is 10mm. It will still look great because it’s all about viewing distance. Since it’s facing out and visible to drivers, there’s some restrictions on what can be shown on them in regards to video.KCLover wrote:So is this video board the quality of the one in KC Live?

.7mm Indoor.
You are correct about viewing distance. 3mm is good for anything beyond 3M. 10mm is good from 10M on. Color and brightness uniformity is the big issue with cheaper LED boards (not to mention service).

The screen was on today and outside of a screwed up panel, it looked fine.

Codes are meant to be broken...we know that all too well.
Too bad...that wrap on two light would have been very cool.

What are they planning on filling that space with instead?

I recall during streetcar design that a certain banking executive didn't us turning downtown into "Vegas" with station lighting and smart kiosks. That might explain some of the push back.

I have never understood the antipathy to signs downtown. There are buildings where you are clueless as to what is inside.

That's right Fang. I do not live downtown, therefore I am unfamiliar with what is inside some buildings. The more signs, the better.

Actually just saw the murals they put up earlier today. While I do wish the LED screen had taken up the entire space, the mural aspect of it was well done and frames it nicely. I think it's a decent alternate solution.StrangerThings wrote:hgascoigne wrote:What are they planning on filling that space with instead?

I mean, how do you guys not find LED signs to be incredibly tacky? No one actually lives in Times Square, why would any livable neighborhood try to replicate that?
I get that it adds a bit of a “big city” vibe but Don’t think that is the best directions for KCMO.

I see your point, but on the other hand look at what can be done with an LED sign vs a static billboard (or nothing at all). I mean, the murals are great pieces of art, but imagine a partnership with XRoads galleries and digital artists where their art is displayed on the screen for a week/month with artist info.grecobs wrote:I mean, how do you guys not find LED signs to be incredibly tacky? Weren't (new) billboards outlawed in KCMO city limits? Is there a difference between a billboard and these display boards?

Digital art is what I was hoping for with that LED board space...not ads.
