Re: Historic Old Northeast
I think they are actually using statistics from the neighborhood to the southwest of Independence and Prospect. The population is quite small so the total amount of crime isn't the highest, but per capita, it looks bad.

Re: Historic Old Northeast
Some of our data miners might offer more informed observations, but the details mean everything.
How large is the population sample and where are the geographic pin drops?
Add similar sample factoring to the measurement of 'violent crimes' and then you have a real conversation.
Without the data structure you may have nothing more than a dart on a map and a trumped-up list.

This is 2015 crimes against persons. That intersection doesn't look any different than other parts of the NE

The Chua Quan Am Buddhist Temple, at Lexington and Park avenues in the Old Northeast, is making progress. Artisans were brought in from overseas to construct decorative elements of the temple facade and entrance.

Construction on two residential projects, a 57-unit apartment development and 22 townhouses, is scheduled to begin next month in The Paseo Gateway redevelopment area on the northeast edge of downtown.
The $12.9 million Quinlan Place apartment project and $5.1 million Quinlan Row townhouses project were endorsed by the Planned Industrial Expansion Authority Thursday. The projects are part of a major redevelopment effort on property formerly occupied by the Choteau Courts public housing project.
The Paseo Gateway initiative, which received a $30 million federal grant, includes the recently completed Pendleton Flats development at 539 Brooklyn and the planned Pendleton ArtsBlock apartment project on Independence Avenue.

The Quinlan Place apartment project on the southeast corner of The Paseo and Eighth Street is near an Aldi grocery store. It includes 19 one-bedroom units; 28, two-bedroom units, and 10, three-bedroom units.
The Quinlan Row development is northeast of Woodland Avenue and Ninth Street and includes 11 two-bedroom units and 11 three-bedroom units.

Looks like they grafted it to the south side of a "parsonage" built just a few years ago.

Yes. They did. It appears there is a sort of "breezeway" between the two buildings.

I wish I didn't see that. Any idea when these were torn down? What's wrong with this town.Eon Blue wrote:For reference, here is the original Quinlan:

Well, it really does look better as a parking lot now.
This building would seriously be one of the coolest places to live if it still survived.

If you're ever feeling too happy, go look up photos of the neighborhoods south of Independence Ave, stretching east from Locust. There were blocks and blocks and blocks of great urban form that would be in hot demand today. Instead we have vacant land, wide one-way streets, and shabby light industry with the few surviving historic buildings.
