Re: Power and Light District Official Tenant List
I think when you have bad management and crappy co-workers even a McDonalds can fail. I think this was the case with Frans or maybe Canadians just like crappy tasting food.
Any ideas what could go here next?
I think it would be a cool spot for this 50's Burger place where the servers insult you called Ed Devebics, they are only in Chicago and they are only at one location now after trying expansion or another burger place called Johnny Rockets would be nice.

well you know you have to give a better hint than that. Local or national?ColumbusParkian wrote:people should be happy (or at least happier) with what is replacing Fran's. This has been in the works for a while.

I would not be disappointed to learn that Eggtc was opening up a downtown shop.

I would say regional. Closer to local than national, for sure.

That would be an outstanding idea. That place is always packed on the south Plaza location.earthling wrote:The food tasted like plastic that was microwaved. I could see Eggstc doing well there.

I'll miss the 24-hour thing. The food and service there was terrible, but at least it was open.

Yeah, hopefully the next one apparently in the works will be 24hr. A Waffle House might be better there than a higher quality non-24 hour place.

Re: Power and Light District Official Tenant List
I wouldn't mind a 24-hour Winstead's.
Now that P&L tennants are being discussed, is there any momentum on the empty shells on the West side of Main, or for the old Ghengis Grill, or for the locations next to the Sprint store?
It sounds like Cordish held out too long for 810/ESPN Zone, and that ship has sailed for the Grand and 14th St. corner. What two-story restaurant concepts are out there and actually expanding that could fill the space up?
Are we ever going to get a local BBQ joint in the P&L? I still don't know what would make the most sense, but due to redundant locations for other dowtown staples, Okie Joe's seems to be the one that could stand to make the most money based on reputation and existing geography.

Like this idea the most so far. BBQ would be nice but a 24 hour one is not likely.bobbyhawks wrote:I wouldn't mind a 24-hour Winstead's.

Re: Power and Light District Official Tenant List
That would be great, but I can't wrap my head around how it would happen considering the locations at 12th and Brooklyn and Linwood and Main. Many of the locations are investments in a community, and leasing a space from Cordish for a huge rental fee doesn't mesh with that idea, unless Cordish has finally come around to the idea that they need to offer whatever sweetheart deal they can muster to get a good KC BBQ place in the area. A Gates in a space not owned by Gates would be a first as far as I know. My guess is that Cordish would covet Okie Joe's first. I'd love to see Danny Edwards return to the area, but I think that bridge was burned long ago. Woodyard would be nice, but I'm not sure if the P&L vibe would translate well. Jackstack and Bryant's are too close already location-wise, and I doubt either would move.mgh7676 wrote:We're Kansas City. I want a 24-hr Gates BBQ
Few people realize that Gates already serves food until 1:00 AM at Linwood and Main. It would be pretty amazing if someone became the first, first-party delivery service for BBQ downtown with late-night hours, though. Probably better for my overall well-being that this does not exist ever.chaglang wrote:ZOMG. Why hasn't this been doen before?mgh7676 wrote:We're Kansas City. I want a 24-hr Gates BBQ

Re: Power and Light District Official Tenant List
it would be stupid for gates or OK Joe's to pay exorbitant P&L rents. they could easily move to the strip on Grand where Willie's/Cigar Box is or something and capture both the daytime office crowd and the after-bar crowd. or maybe a space down near town topic, to create quite the hub of drunk-food.bobbyhawks wrote:That would be great, but I can't wrap my head around how it would happen considering the locations at 12th and Brooklyn and Linwood and Main. Agreed. Still: First Watch > Fran's, no? I'd say it's considerably better--if still quite vanilla.loftguy wrote:NDTeve wrote:Agreed.smh wrote:Sounds like a First Watch.

the problem there is that First Watch closes at like 2pm every day, so you'd lose the "after-bars" diner thing.smh wrote:

with alamo drafthouse down the street, i'd like to see austin-based kerbey lane downtown. 24-hr, breakfast/lunch/dinner all the time, good food.
