Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
There are so many downtowns that would die to have something like this. I hope this is what has been needed to take our downtown residential market to the next level.

i know i am a snob, but i wish we could have received the grocery store, refurbished Midland, Sprint Center, etc. without the P+L. the presence of the P+L makes me not want to go tot he Cosentino's.

Why? Seems to me like the grocery store and the live block are two very separate entities, catering to two totally different markets.chrizow wrote: i know i am a snob, but i wish we could have received the grocery store, refurbished Midland, Sprint Center, etc. without the P+L. the presence of the P+L makes me not want to go tot he Cosentino's.

i just try and avoid the P+L when possible, though i was just being snarky.
that said, i doubt i'll visit the downtown Cosentino's very often since i live closer to the Wild Oats and Brookside Market. i'll definitely check it out though.

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
I'm really excited to have this a block away from where I live. Plus, one of the architects is building a house in the subdivision I work in and he comes in at least once a week to tell me all about it.
Last week he told me they were RUSHING to get the November 1 opening because grocery stores like to open before November 1 and if they can't they will wait until the end of January because of staff training, working out the bugs, before the holidays (which make up 25% of their yearly business). But this Cosentino's is special (plus lots of pressure from the city) and they're doing whatever has to be done to have it open by Nov. 1.

Chriz is just becoming old and snarky like he describes his dad as being.

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
why does the downtown store need so many more employees "per square foot?"
dear old dad has come around on the fact i live near 44th and Troost - i have to pick up the slack somewhere, or the Global Snark Quotient will imbalanced.KCPowercat wrote: Chriz is just becoming old and snarky like he describes his dad as being.

I have to walk to target right behind my houseKCPowercat wrote: This grocery store seems like it will be programmed perfectly for workers and loft dwellers alike.
I can't wait for it to open. When someone from the suburbs tells me where they live I am going to ask where they get their groceries and gasp how far they have to DRIVE to get there

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
you guys dont know how lucky you really are. so many downtowns have NOTHING like this.
pittsburgh is an absolutely beautiful downtown, one of the prettiest skylines to look at in america. when you first see it, all you can say is WOW. and we have people moving back to dt in droves here as well. not as many as kansas city, but still people are snatching up condos FAST.
yet, we not only do not have a grocery store in the cbd, there are not even any prospects for one on the horizon. luckily for me, my wife and i are both true urban enthusiasts, and walking 20 minutes across the river to the north side to a grocery store is not an ordeal.
you guys are LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY, most downtowns across the country would kill for this. of course, not having one was never a big deal for most either though!!!

Agreed. I liked downtown before P&L. Just wanted the grocery store.chrizow wrote: i know i am a snob, but i wish we could have received the grocery store, refurbished Midland, Sprint Center, etc. without the P+L. the presence of the P+L makes me not want to go tot he Cosentino's.
Being in Columbus Park means, too far to walk with groceries or get a quick gallon of milk. Are you expected to park under P&L or HR Block if you drive to the grocery store?
I'll probably still go to PC on Roe (which I had no idea it was that big, don't really feel it from the selection of non mexican food items) or Costco. Kid goes to daycare in Westport, so I find myself in Sunfresh every once in awhile.

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
parking garage is attached to the grocery store with an entrance right into the store from the garage. Free parking with validation. No you don't have to walk to the Live block garage.
Yeah downtown was awesome before...if you like a sleepy, boring downtown.

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
Good article but it should stress that the parking for the grocery store is free. The article just states you can validate your ticket in the grocery store. The ubran magazine had a great article about the grocery store and also stated that parking for grocery shoppers is free. This is a wonderful benefit.

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
This is going to start a whole new debate, but yes I did like sleepy downtown. I didn't find it boring. P&L does nothing for me. I liked the tranquility. I don't hate it, but I loved it before. It's hard to explain.KCPowercat wrote: Yeah downtown was awesome before...if you like a sleepy, boring downtown.

The P&L district is like 5% of downtown.

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
true dat, but it has a large impact on all of downtown. We also probably need a less sleepy downtown to support the grocery store, so...GRID wrote: The P&L district is like 5% of downtown.
I should have read the article before I asked about parking.
