Best donut in KC Metro
I don't really consider Larryville to be in the KC Metro, but, for the purpose of this thread, I will include it since it is the home of the only Dunkin' Donuts that I know of outside Boston MA.
oh...and the donuts, particularly the jelly filled, are best when 'day old'.

Dunkin' Donuts is a nationwide chain. They 'em in Chicago I know. Isn't Lamars the obvious answer?StL_Dan wrote:I don't really consider Larryville to be in the KC Metro, but, for the purpose of this thread, I will include it since it is the home of the only Dunkin' Donuts that I know of outside Boston MA.

don't know if anyone's ever tried them but Hy-Vee used to have excellent sugar-glazed donuts.

I don't know if they are still around (though I imagine they are, they've been around for decades), but I've always thought Ridgewood Donuts near Blue Ridge Mall blew Lamar's out of the fryer.
IMHO national chains shouldn't even be in the running... unless they started locally or are really good like Krispy Kreme.

Krispy Kreme, when the hot donut sign is lighted!
Are you sure we're talking about the same God here, because yours sounds kind of like a dick.

Yea....I know DD is nationwide. However, you're hard pressed to find them west of Chicago (unless you visit Larryville).trailerkid wrote: Dunkin' Donuts is a nationwide chain. They 'em in Chicago I know. Isn't Lamars the obvious answer?
Two or three years ago, all the DD franchises pulled stakes in the StL Metro similar to how White Castle pulled all stakes in the KC Metro.

lamar's is good.
there used to be a place at like 103rd and state line (or something) called Fluffy Fresh that was 1000% better than lamar's. their longjohns and twists were like 14 inches long!
then fluffy fresh sold to new owners and they drove it into the ground. i dont know if it's still there or not.
i usually get Krispy Kreme. that's a chain that i can rally behind. the glazed donuts are so good. they go down smooth. one time i ate 14 of them in a single sitting, just one right after the other. it was awesome.

Lamar's are the best, hands down. Krusty Krap donuts are smaller, and can't live as long outside an oven.
KC doesn't have Dunkin' Donuts?

I really miss the Lamar's on Linwood...anyone know of a place to get a good donut in Midtown now ( grocery stores don't count ) ?
There's an empty building between Wyandotte & Baltimore on the north side of 39th Street that I think would be perfect for a donut shop.

I think that used to be a McDonald's. The Linwood Lamar's closed? That place was always busy!

Lamar's on Linwood were the best donuts in town and I was very sad to see it go. It wasn't because of lack of business, it was health code problems that were hard to fix considering the age of the old gas station it was in and poor health of the owner Lamar himself. A few months ago I stumbled onto the Lamar's website and sent them an email asking why they haven't reopened a midtown location. Here's the response.
This was before the Omaha investors bought it out from the Denver company. Has anyone ever tried any of the franchised Lamar's here, St. Louis, Denver, etc. I never have since I was afraid I'd be disappointed. The big warm glazed donuts that I used to get at Lamar's on Linwood put Krispy Kreme to shame. Thanks so much for your email. We at LaMar's Donuts appreciate your
loyalty to the name. We are currently looking at a new site for LaMar's
about 1 mile away from the original store. We are looking at redoing the
whole market out there. The stores will not be open anytime soon, but
they will open eventually!

I don't know, I think Dunkin' Donuts is just kind of America's default donut shop. Nothing spectacular, but nothing bad either.

Maybe the new Lamar's is going in that new development that the Velvet Dog/Empire Room guys are doing?
I don't think the building I'm talking about on 39th was ever a McDonalds...I think it was a kinda burger shack at one point. It's sat there empty for years now. I'm tellin' ya...someone could make a mint there with a donut shop. It's got its own little parking lot & everything.
Funny thing is, Mrs. Dawg comes from a donut shop family but there's no interest there.

I recall seeing McDonald's doors on the building, walking by. Perhaps I dreamed it, but I'm fairly certain it was waking life.
