It did it again today between roughly 3:30 -4:00. I would say it was just me, but I see nothing has been posted and everyone disapeared.

Oh, woe! WOE! No forum for thirty minutes!

I don't know if it is related, but the forum clock is now off by about ten minutes.

Re: Forum downtime
time looks fine.
Man you guys want 99.9% uptime don't you? I assume the host had server issues...which could have caused the time difference for awhile.

KCP and I are communicating about this, and are well aware of the performance issues.Kard wrote: there have been some problems loading pages this week...intermittent 500 errors and timeouts. when tried again seconds later it sometimes comes up.

Re: Forum downtime
So was it just me or has the forum been pretty much screwed for the last hour? Doesn't look like there has been much activity so I assume others must have been affected.

Do we need to hold a forum car wash or bake sale to raise money for some bandwidth or something?

Re: Forum downtime
It's not a bandwidth issue. They could pipe an OC192 gigacock line to our server, and it wouldn't make a lick of difference.
This forum is one of countless other database instances on its server. All these instances, using a relatively lightweight database like mySQL, share access to the system's memory and processor. When there ain't no more, there ain't no more.
The problem is compounded by a couple of factors. One is that the SMF/PHP/MySQL trifecta is a bit of a programming disaster anyway, so it's usually just a matter of time before a shitload of dead data, for lack of an easy word to describe it, clogs the server. This effect is accelerated by the fact that KCS has heavier use than most accounts.
In short, KCS is too big for its space on the web.
