There are signs about future construction at that awful intersection of Rt. 24 (Independence Ave) and the Paseo. It appears the intersection will be expanded in some way. Has anyone seen any plans for this crowded intersection or know of when it's scheduled to begin?
Thanks.

Re: Paseo/Independence Expansion
Parks & Rec circulated a couple of sets of plans for that thing back in 1999. One set was "long term" improvements involving the entire stretch from Admiral all the way up to Missouri Ave, doing away with the "overpass" for S-bound Paseo up to Independence Blvd.
Two of the three sets of plans took out the hotels on either side of Paseo. One set of those plans took out Queens (then Scimeca's).
The other set of plans were improvements to the intersection itself involving a left turn lane for E. & W. bound Independence turning on to Paseo. (A HUGE help for unclogging that place) At the time the 2-3 sets of plans were intorduced for the big picture, it was tied to Federal highway money that had an 18-24 month sunset tied to it. The intersection improvements were all state & local monies with no sunset. My guess is that's what we're seeing right now is the intersection improvements, not the long term stuff.
I'm all for the improvements to Independence Blvd near Chestnut as well as the intersection improvements to Independence & paseo, but for pete's sake, can we get the damn bridge over Lexington open again. OSHA is going to have the damn thing tied up for weeks and the decking has been done for at least 60 days. Gimme a way around the Avenue for God's sake - 'specially now!!! Ya know????
