Re: Olathe/OP grab the Wizards and build them a Stadium
There's plenty of room for a third stadium at the TSC. Sheesh. Put it on the ballot for Jackson County. Done deal. Do three-in-a row and the roof could slide over it, too.
(sarcasm. heh. hehe. ......no? ok. only cause it would probably pass.)

Duh, because there's only parking on two sides of the stadium there.GRID wrote: Snapped this photo in LA while doing aerials. Why can't KC do somthing like this???

I think they are doing something like that in JoCo, except instead of tennis courts, it will be all soccer fields with some shopping.

I think it must be illegal to demolish buildings in Johnson County.

Yael Abouhallkah is such a freakin hypocrite. On "Ruckus" he was criticizing building a stadium for the Wizards saying its a financial loser and that someone in Kansas should stand up to them and refuse to subsidize the stadium with STAR bonds.

Renaming the team would be maybe the dumbest thing they could do....it would alienate a huge fanbase. We are the KC metro area.

I know that soccor moms and the suburbs are a huge fan base so Johnsonville Kaynsasvoltopt wrote: DOWNTOWN SOCCER!

is giving away the farm (typical KS stealing from MO - again).
But maybe they're (typically) overlooking another sleeping GIANT fan base
in the heart of the city known as Hispanics.

I'm sure they want to "avoid that element," because it makes the soccermoms nervous.Michael® wrote: But maybe they're (typically) overlooking another sleeping GIANT fan base

Re: Olathe/OP grab the Wizards and build them a Stadium
If Hispanics made up that big of a segment of a fanbase, wouldn't Wizards attendance be higher than it is? I don't know, I'm just asking. It seemed like the games I've been to there were quite a few Hispanics, but not a ton. Are you suggesting we put a stadium in KCK? I'd be for that.

Actually there is probably just as big of a hispanic fan base here in Olathe/Lenexa as KCK.Michael® wrote: I know that soccor moms and the suburbs are a huge fan base so Johnsonville Kaynsas

I agree, wherever this thing is built, I think having them in KS or MO would be a benefit for the entire metro area... it would be better than losing the team to another city.

Re: Olathe/OP grab the Wizards and build them a Stadium
1. There are quite a few Hispanics in Johnson County now. It's a major demographic shift. kcdcchef, I know you don't live in the area anymore, but you'd be surprised if you came to older parts of Olathe and OP; tiendas, taquerias, etc. It's quite a refreshing change from the Olathe of my childhood.
2. The Hispanic audience in KC is not large enough to be the core fanbase...nowhere near large enough. It's niche marketing.
3. The new-immigrant Hispanic audience in the US has consistently proven that it is much more interested in futbol from home than soccer here. That said, there are, of course, nuances in the market...this attitude is far more prevalent among Mexican immigrants than anyone else. Of course, that's not just a plurality of Hispanic immigrants, it's an overwhelming majority in KC. Second-generation and farther back...they're Americans, and watch soccer at only a somewhat higher rate than Caucasians.
4. (And this gets overlooked all the time when people talk about marketing to KC's Hispanic community) This is Kansas City. The vast majority of people who live here have cars. Immigrants, too, particularly if they don't live in the select few areas well served by The Metro. They have cars, they have jobs, they have money, they drive to their entertainment like everyone else. I don't particularly like it, either, but so it goes.
