Looking at Devin and the poster formerly known as DeadManWalking banter back and forth in posts from two years ago....I think they're arguing about net density versus gross density. [/useless factoid of the day]

Re: When Downtown KC was a powerhouse - A must see for all
I saw post a bit ago and I like your style. I have decided to make your living room my living room. So I emailed the Library for prices. They replied that they will be posted on the website soon. But in the mean time, if anyone is interested in doing this, here's what I was told [prices subject to change...my words, not theirs]:KCPowercat wrote: I have this pic:

These photos are amazing! I live in Woodland, CA, just outside of Sacramento. We don't have nearly the skyline you all do. Our old buildings are so much shorter due to earthquake restrictions. I love seeing KC like this. I love the new picts too. It's a beautiful place, I could grab a coffee and just walk there for hours.

When did the Main/Delaware/9th intersection basically cease to exist?
North loop construction, or earlier?

Ditto AllThings, only I wish then was now plus the buildings and things now. Just with the demolished buildings rearranged. If I become an architect, I hope I can rebuild many of these destroyed buildings close to their appearance.

If I become an architect I will design the new riverfront since everyone knows it wont be done by the time me and Devin are out of college.

Are you going to to allow parking on your riverfront?KansasCityCraka wrote: If I become an architect I will design the new riverfront since everyone knows it wont be done by the time me and Devin are out of college.

Did you see the photos, 4 I believe, that had surface parking lots in them.
Very interesting.

I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Not intersting, look at history. Back then, not everybody had cars. Families shared one car, today in most families everyone has a car. If you had a car you were rich or worked your ass off. Lower paid people and students typically walked or drove a POS that was shared among family members. There wasnt many cars = there were very little parking lots or parking garages and most of the parking was on the curb with meters and whatnot.aknowledgeableperson wrote: Did you see the photos, 4 I believe, that had surface parking lots in them.

Re: When Downtown KC was a powerhouse - A must see for all
Thanks Michael. The Pickwick Hotel and adjacent former bus terminal (at least that is what I think that building was) are among my favorite buildings in KC. McGee is certainly one of the roads less travelled downtown, as these buildings are not even on most people's radar screen. I certainly hope we never lose them.
The old pictures of 31st and Troost are simply heart breaking. My father has told me what a happening place Troost was in the pre-war (WWII) days. I rarely make it over there anymore but much of the building stock is still intact. Who knows what could happen with Union hill development marching in that direction.

lol craka... (i'm laughing at the riverfront timeline prediction)
I think certain areas/buildings should be rebuilt, as we lost many buildings to parking lots instead of newer structures.

One of the bigger losses I think, the building at 10th & Main where the transit plaza now is.Michael® wrote:
