New bar coming to River Market
Signs just went up in the old Big Daddy's location for the new tenant. It is going to be called Harry's Country Club. No indication of an opening date.

This was in the paper a couple weeks ago..don't remember where...like Hearne's column I think..it's one of the guys who start Harry's Bars and Tables......my only question is why name it Harry's Country Club? I see people just equating that with the Plaza.....
glad to see something go in there.

It's Harry himself. The best bartender in KC. I hope this new place is as great as Harry's in Westport used to be.

Harry's in Westport has rude bartenders. I asked them once if they have Boulevard Stout, and he shot me a snotty look, and said, "No, we have Guinness," as if having Guinness rules out having any other(better) stouts.

Positive Sign
It appears to be a positive sign that Harry wants to invest in a River Market location--instead of opening another place in Overland Park or Lenexa.

Yes. That is very admirable.

I'm assuming this is a country bar with a clever name. Is it? If not, why is it called "Country Club...." It's not a country club, not on the Plaza, and not in the area formerly known as the Country Club District.Harry's Country Club

The Pendergast Poltergeist Project!
I finally divorced beer and proposed to whiskey, but I occassionally cheat with fine wine.

Country Club Beer
There used to be a beer sold in Kansas City called Country Club. It was brewed by either Muehlebach or Goetz breweries.

On a somewhat related note, a new Mexican restaurant has opened up in the old Cascone's location at the City Market. Cascone's moved across the street.

I agree that Guinness is very good, but its transatlantic taste degradation can't compete with the brewed-yesterday-ten-blocks-away-no-preservatives-taste of Boulevard stout.QueSi2Opie wrote:There's nothin' on Earth better than GUINNESS!!!
Guinness is better in Europe than it is here. It tastes like it should, there, unfettered. We can get the real thing with Boulevard stout.
