from the downtown council email announcement:
  • More than 10,000 people are expected Downtown for the Urban Tour.
  • Participants will tour YOUR lofts, stop at YOUR business, shop in YOUR store, visit YOUR art gallery, walk to YOUR nightclub and eat at YOUR restaurant.
  • If you participate as a sponsor, your business will be highlighted in the special Urban Tour insert of the KC Star that will be distributed to 250,000 potential customers.*
This is one opportunity you can’t afford to miss, and there are many ways to participate:
  • Open your doors for an open house to display your business.
  • Provide special offers or coupons for the weekend of the event.
  • Sign up for one of several different levels of the Urban Tour sponsorship.
  • Attend the events.
    [/li]
Whatever you decide, you must contact us and confirm your participation by noon on Friday, March 31.

*Available only to Presenting level sponsors and/or retail or restaurants level sponsors.

To view the Sponsorship Levels click here.

Special Weekend Events
In addition to touring some of Downtown’s finest and most unique condos and lofts, there are many activities planned for the weekend. One of the events focused on retailers this year includes a "Taste of Downtown" with a first-rate menu of the finest cuisine from a select number of downtown restaurants that will be available for sale. The event, hosted by the Crossroads Community Association and the DTC will kick off First Friday's in the Crossroads Arts District and will also provide retailers the opportunity to provide coupons, informational brochures and promotional flyers. Space for restaurants to participate in the "Taste of Downtown" is limited and will be assigned on a first come first served basis.

We hope you will join us in showing the rest of Kansas City the lifestyle of Downtown. For more information or to sign up to participate, contact:

Cool. So what's the deal, isn't there like a bus that goes around to each property? Do I just hop on from one of the locations?

Yep.  They have city buses going from area to area.

They should have more complete details and info at First Friday.  The Star should be publishing a schedule as well.  It might come in the Urban Living section, which should be published Thursday, May 4.

I was told not to take the bus because if you want to stay in a particular area longer, you could be left walking (god forbid).

I think i'll be attending with some buddies of mine... where do you guys suggest that I park... i think taking the bus around will be the best way to tour all of the lofts/restaurants, etc....

the intersect party last year was a bit of yawner (wasn't it called that?), probably because it was in that tiny oppenstein park (?) on walnut and it was a bit rainy. the music was good, though a bit loud and distorted for such a small space. we didn't stay long. maybe this year "the barney"* will be a better spot.

* i hereby christen Barney Allis Plaza as "the barney", so we urban types have a inside way to refer to our favorite tennis court/parking lot rooftop.

This may be a bit of a stretch, but is there a listing anywhere of what's for sale vs. what's for rent on the tour?  I'm specifically looking for a rental and would like to check out as many as possible...

I don't think the Barney would work as half of it is chained off for the tennis court construction.  If fact, I doubt it will ever work as long as the courts are there--I don't see how they could get away with taking any less then 2/3 of the plaza for it.

On the map, there is an (R) next to all the properties that are rentals.
