Von Maur Department Stores, a Davenport, Iowa-based upscale department chain, has agreed to be an anchor at The Meadows, a Lake Saint Louis lifestyle center.
Von Maur, which currently has 22 stores across the Midwest, plans to build a two-level , 130,000 square foot store that is tentatively scheduled to open in the fall of 2010. It will employ about 225 workers. This will be the company’s first store in Missouri and will anchor the north portion of The Meadows.
The Meadows is scheduled to open in August and is being developed on a 64-acre-site at Lake Saint Louis Boulevard and Highway 40.

So, it's just mostly sprawl, rather than completely spraw?kard wrote: i think it's the evolution of Big Strip Mall to New Urbanism and back to Big Strip Mall But In A "U" or Circle Shape

It's at least a slight improvement. With the "lifestyle" center there is ussually at least some effort to create a pedestrian experience amongst the shops - instead of having everyone just park right in front of the shop they intend to go into and than go straight back to their car as with a traditional strip mall.AllThingsKC wrote: So, it's just mostly sprawl, rather than completely spraw?

yep
a Von Maur is under construction @ Corbin Park (135th & Metcalf, Overland Park, KS)
not MO but probably closer to the core than Lake St. Louis is to STL

a "lifestyle center" is a fancy marketing name for an open air shopping center

Just shows you that Von Maur compares Lake St. Louis to South Overland Park. Ouch!

I haven't been for awhile but isn't LSL experiencing a bit of a commercial explosion?

Re: Von Maur to open first Missouri store
yeah. i'm not too familiar with where municipalities begin and end out there but far west county and especially st. charles county are exploding in all ways, including with commercial development. there are lots of very upscale housing developments out there, much like SoJoCo, and the retail is following suit. (also, like older parts of JoCo, older parts of west county are being relatively abandoned in favor of the hot new lifestyle centers farther out or closer to 40.)LenexatoKCMO wrote: I haven't been for awhile but isn't LSL experiencing a bit of a commercial explosion?

Should be good news for Grid given his professed preferance for getting on the wrong 1-70 entrance ramp when he takes the fam shopping.

Re: Von Maur to open first Missouri store
Well, I don't typically shop in Lake StL, but I can say I have been to the Galleria several times this year and Oak Park or Leawood Town Center zero times this year . That's way down, we used to shop in JoCo a lot before their were other options.LenexatoKCMO wrote: Should be good news for Grid given his professed preferance for getting on the wrong 1-70 entrance ramp when he takes the fam shopping.
The entire South St Charles to W Chesterfield to S County area is booming. Makes S JoCo look lethargic.
If you like that kind of thing.
I like that area of StL less than I like JoCo

Re: Von Maur to open first Missouri store
Yup. St. Charles County is out-sprawling Joco by a wide margin. The only area the lack is in employment, but big office parks like WingHaven and the Missouri Research Park are quickly closing the gap.
