If you go erecting images of Chairman Mao, you aren't gonna make it with anyone anyhow.

Sounds like they really are going with a new flag. It doesn't "wow" me at this point and I'm not quite sure about the shade of red and blue they are going for--maybe the image on this article just renders strangely on my screen compared to how it will look in real life--but the removal of text is definitely an improvement and at least makes it a serious flag compared to what we have now.

Re: The KC City Flag
I never knew one of the old flags was a triangle. We should bring that back. Be unique.
I'm semi-fine with the new flag just wish some of the "fountain heart" lines lined up with the red-blue color line. There's something about the fountain heart that seems informal for a city flag, which makes sense considering how most people here are friendly.
I wonder if this will lead to the flag being flown more often as a civic pride symbol. St. Louis and Chicago do it, KC can.

The fountain heart still feels 70s-ish to me. Nothing about this version feels like it will catch on as a symbol of civic pride. Hell the heart shape with KC in it from Charlie Hustle even feels fresher than this.

It'd be better if the fountain heart actually looked like a heart. Make it an actual heart shape and it'd be perfect.

Re: The KC City Flag
The fountain heart symbol is all over the city website. I've seen it on manhole covers, and I'm sure it's on city letterhead and elsewhere. So I suspect one of the benefits of this design is that by keeping the old fountain heart symbol it carries no real switching costs. They've just ditched the worst elements of the old flag--the text and the plagiarized French flag background. Politics is the art of the possible and in that vein, maybe this redesign is the right flag for right now.beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 12:19 pm It'd be better if the fountain heart actually looked like a heart. That said, I do see where folks have tried tweaking the fountain heart and I like it better too, though I suspect it's off the table for now. This one caught my eye, as an example.

Re: The KC City Flag
I think the fountain-heart, which obviously I'm gonna refer to as the fheart because I'm a man-child, is from the 90s. That said, my addled memories of 90s KC are that it was basically like the 70s only with crack cocaine and better music. Pretty sure the 70s symbol/flag was the one city workers have always called the "paperclips".

The heart just needs more cleavage, a deeper center dive. Also, the V at the bottom cuts too far down.HalcyonKC wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 1:04 pm

For some reason I'm now picturing the SNL short where the 2 guys face off wearing deeper and deeper v-neck shirts, until one of them finally gets arrested.beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 1:35 pmThe heart just needs more cleavage, a deeper center dive. The same could be said of the municipal "paperclip" logo when it was replaced / updated by the fountain heart.
It's time to refresh that tired logo as well.

You can pre-order the new flag from All Nations Flag Co here: https://kcflag.com/product/3x5-official ... nsas-city/
According to Facebook post, it sounds like All Nations
was collaborating with the City on the redesign process.
Would have fully supported this design (also available from All Nations) ↓↓↓

Re: The KC City Flag
I am really curious what this is going to look like in real life now. The images on KCUR and other media so far have shown a lighter shade of blue. But the All Nations rendering shows a more standard navy blue, which I think I like better.trailerkid wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 12:00 am You can pre-order the new flag from All Nations Flag Co here: https://kcflag.com/product/3x5-official ... nsas-city/
