Re: Historic Preservation in the Urban Core
There is an application for demolition of the historic building at at 3121 Prospect (currently Arvest Bank, wants to build a new branch). I know neighborhood groups have been clear about wanting to keep that building (as one of the only remaining historic buildings in that area), so hopefully this gets stopped.

Hilarious, a single building surrounded by parking lots on all sides and it's gotta go!

What's historical about it? I'm unfamiliar with it but curious.

‘Bridgerton’ Writer Azia Squire To Adapt ‘The Richest Black Girl In America’ For Amblin
https://deadline.com/2021/10/bridgerton ... 234857961/EXCLUSIVE: Amblin Partners has acquired rights to the Truly*Adventurous article “The Richest Black Girl in America,” penned by Lauren Henley, and has tapped Azia Squire to adapt it into a feature script.
Squire will use the article as well of thousands of pages of archival documents to help with research on the true story of Sarah Rector, an 11-year-old Black girl in Jim Crow America, who is given reparations in the form of uninhabitable land by the U.S. government. After oil reservoirs are discovered beneath her land, Sarah almost immediately becomes one of the wealthiest people in America. But the government intervenes, once again, to insist that white conservators manage her finances for her. Remarkably, even with the deck stacked against her, teenage Sarah learns to outwit the system and take back what she’s owed.
...
Squire is a rising star in the writer ranks, recently landing a staff job on the upcoming season of Netflix and Shondaland’s hit series Bridgerton.

Commercial buildings along Kansas City's Main Street have been listed on Missouri Preservation's 2022 "Places in Peril" List of Endangered Buildings. This is the statewide preservation group -- not Historic Kansas City.

Historic Sauer Castle — one of the area's most endangered buildings — could be sold during tax auction
...
Sauer Castle, 935 Shawnee Road, is scheduled to be part of a tax sale meant to pay the owner's unpaid taxes — unless he arranges another method to avoid losing it.
...
Carl Lopp, who owns Sauer Castle, told FOX4 on Monday that he continues to work on the property. County assessors said they're unaware of any recent work. County codes enforcement records show 45 citations against the property and fines in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Leaders with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas, said Lopp has arranged past payment plans to avoid seeing the castle sold on the courthouse steps.
However, according to Wendy Green, Wyandotte County's senior counsel, any payment plans in this case will require the approval of a judge to avoid the March 28 tax sale. County assessors continue to bill Lopp for a monthly $1,500 citation until work to improve the castle is completed.
...
The March 28 tax sale carries a minimum asking price of $27,808.01 for the castle and $8,303.25 for the caretaker's house.

Carl Lopp sold the castle to someone else (under an LLC of course). Will still be involved in getting it renovated, however, seems he is no longer the owner. Seems there is also a legitimate plan to get the castle renovated.FangKC wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 8:44 pm Historic Sauer Castle — one of the area's most endangered buildings — could be sold during tax auction

That's a relief. I hope he didn't sell it to himself but under a different LLC.

Re: Historic Preservation in the Urban Core
While that's the popular rumor, he doesn't have majority ownership (if any) and the partner is someone who has restored many historic buildings. Partner wants to keep it under wraps, but Lopp can't held being the center of attention (which is weird because he is universally hated).

"We're working as hard as we can to support all the things we're working on," said Lopp.
