WTF! I’m all for art, but why are we blocking a major artery for it?

Could be kind of a pain, but I think Charlotte and Oak are just as "major" as Rockhill. People will figure it out with detour signs. It just 3 weeks.beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Fri Jan 25, 2019 10:24 am https://www.kansascity.com/entertainmen ... 20330.html

Traffic is a gas, not a liquid. People will find new routes. The world will not end.

andy goldsworthy is pretty cool. anyone who hasn't seen "rivers and tides" or the follow-up documentary should do so! cool project, even if our daily routine will be slightly disrupted...

The Nelson is the best on that list even if it were not free.FangKC wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 5:09 am Go Vote for the Nelson Atkins "Best Free Museum." You can vote everyday through March 14.

Voted for the Nelson cause im a homer. But if you haven’t been to Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, I highly recommend you take a trip to see it. Fantastic art museum and surprisingly close to Kansas City (only a 3ish hour drive!)GRID wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 7:51 amThe Nelson is the best on that list even if it were not free.FangKC wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 5:09 am Go Vote for the Nelson Atkins "Best Free Museum." Re: Nelson Atkins - Moving Forward
Recently published in KMT. Nelson is exhibiting stolen loot. Just in time for the 100th anniversary of Howard Carters' discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. The two gold falcons that were purchased in 1967 were stolen from the mummy prior to photography of all the objects, by none other than Carter himself. The pieces were given by him to his surgeon who passed them on to the unnamed person who sold them to the Nelson. They were originally part of a large beaded pectoral of which the central part was so embedded in the mummy it was not removed by Carter. Will the Nelson repatriate them to Egypt? I doubt it, unless Egypt makes a claim.

Competition for expansion design to open in fall and last for about 6 months. To be managed by Malcolm Reading Consultants.

Just design something that can be easily expanded as collections increase.

Re: Nelson Atkins - Moving Forward
Any ideas if this will be on the main campus or across the street? It would be kind of cool if they tunneled under Rockhill to create a connection and used some semblance of the Steve Holl first expansion design on the other side of the road to create symmetry.

This seems to align with the master plan requirements for expansion in the main blockHighlander wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 11:43 amAny ideas if this will be on the main campus or across the street? Re: Nelson Atkins - Moving Forward
Have the design entries that lost to Steven Holl ever been made public? Those might give a clue what direction further expansion could take.
