Re: OFFICIAL - City Club Apartments (former Midwest Hotel)
There still are some diners, but fewer. There are also a lot of breakfast places now, quite a few new ones. Overall probably more than when there were mostly traditional diners for bfast. Simply changing tastes. Midtown could use a solid diner again that sticks to the basics but better than Chubby's and Winsteads, of which both got to the point of inedible.

I’m fairly sure they’ve secured traditional bank loans to build out and open. I think they’re just trying out something different. Not that surprising given the times and hh.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 9:23 pm I mean I like the thought and concept of the idea I just don't have a lot of confidence in "rethinking the industry" if they need me to invest to make it happen.
that said I'll throw some money behind it.
But I don’t think this is like a go fund me to build out the kitchen. More trying to diversify and try different things.

The build out of both is quite advanced. These places are opening absent a Covid zombie variant.
I suspect the outdoor spaces will do well in spring for a grand opening.
I still find the diner concept a little odd, but like 50s Americana nostalgia isn’t my vibe. But I’ll sit on the patio and drink a boozy milkshake any time.

I have to think that menu is not going to resemble diner food much. Maybe like an homage to diner dishes?

Still a bit of weird look imo. The renderings are accurate.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 9:52 pm I have to think that menu is not going to resemble diner food much. Maybe like an homage to diner dishes?
I just can’t imagine sitting down at a place that looks like winsteads and ordering expensive drinks.
Obviously I’ll give it a few tries.

I don't care what's on the diner's menu as long as a handful of items from The Rieger's lunch/happy hour offerings are available (I'm looking at you, pork tenderloin).

They're slowly revealing the menu on Instagram if anyone wants to check in on them. They key word is slowly.

They're doing work on the restaurant outdoor space tomorrow. I'll try to grab some pictures. I think it's supposed to be early morning if anyone is walking and wants to look. No idea what they're doing so I can't promise anything fun other than it involves a crane.

I keep meaning to sneak pictures of these, but I forget. They posted a video of the diner a week or so ago but it seems to be lost to the ephemeral world of social media.
I have no idea why it's taking so long, but it looks good.
I'm traveling like crazy, but I'll try to post stuff when I'm back. People prefer here or the main crossroads thread for updates on this?

I'm staying at CityClub (via Airbnb) while our bathroom is being remodeled. I think about six units are available this way -- a mix of studios, 1BR, and 2BR. I'm not sure I could live with the barrage of patterns in the common spaces, but I'm sure it appeals to someone. Really nice to have a direct entry into the DGX.

DGX is a nice option I've found using more and more and I don't even live in the crossroads.

So, this building has sold. It's no longer city club and will be managed by willow bridge.
The restaurants went bankrupt and there is litigation. The loans were backed, at least partly, by Cityclub.
I'm told Cityclub is keeping their plaza property.
I haven't been around much, but I'll try to find out more.
Also dgx just did a renovation.

Howard's restaurant space looks so great. So sad to see him not work there.

Read into those words what you will. I'll try to find out more, but everyone is more focused on holidays. The fact that it was so sudden makes me think it wasn't completely voluntary, but that is speculation.

Willow Bridge is Lincoln Property Company residential group renamed after they were sold last month. This is more likely than not the partner transaction mentioned.WoodDraw wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 12:32 pm"We take pride in our communities and in this instance a partner transaction occurred that resulted in an ownership restructuring. So Howard is still hinting he may open here?
