Has Lucas given up trying to reuse the current bridge?

Sen. Greg Razer got a state contribution to study it. Very much still a thing.

This is how great cities build and maintain bridges (Pont Alexandre III bridge, completed 1899). This bridge is 57 years older than the Broadway Bridge.beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 9:00 am With so much seeming to go right in this city (new KCI, riverfront Current stadium, Main streetcar, NFL Draft, WC possibility, convention hotel, etc.) this is the one project that I'm really disappointed in. I just really think we missed the mark with the lazy design and tearing down the old bring instead of reusing. We seem to be on a roll, but this was a bump in the road.

You picked an international historic landmark that just happens to be a bridge. It would be like not maintaining the Liberty Memorial.
Then there's this one where they let a bridge partially collapse due to lack of care

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
Walked around area Sunday while construction idle. Some impressions: the amount of area this is eating up is huge, so little left of the already remnant of the neighborhood they might as well have bought out the remaining buildings to put the owners out of their misery. Judging from the erected pylon, the northbound ramp from 35 is going to be very lofty with quite a slope going down to the actual river bridge that is also at a grade. I was also surprised about how far apart the 2 bridges will be, judging from where the piers are in the river.

It looks like the bridge is at nearly the same height as the pylon looking at the rendering

Second that. It's among the most disappointing bridge designs I've seen in a while.

It closely matches EVERY bridge Modot has built in a decade except a handful.
The voters don't want high taxes, this is the result.

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
Is replacing old bridges with two separate spans becoming a new norm? MODOT is replacing the I-70 Rocheport bridge with two spans next to each other. They will both be 3 lanes to accommodate future widening of the interstate. The new south bridge will be built first, then the old bridge will be razed and the new north span will be built in the same spot. Another plain jane with no superstructure, but at least will improve the east bound view of the manitou bluffs.

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
I was pleasantly surprised to see the KCMO City Manager tweet out his support for saving the bridge.

I assumed that effort had fallen by the wayside.

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
If it’s up to MoDot then KCMO has no choice but to listen and can’t stop them, right? It’s not like we have funds or anything.
