Re: 1650 Broadway
Mayor just said in a tweet 3 to 5 years before this gets going.

Re: 1650 Broadway
Maybe his intent but he specifically said 3-5 years off

Re: 1650 Broadway
If he thinks a major fast food chain would do a multi-year pop-up in an old Denny’s, then he’s super disconnected to how those businesses operate.
I think it’s more likely he was shooting the shit on Twitter, not providing insight on a major development.

Re: 1650 Broadway
yeah I don't think he actually meant they should build there but I thought it gave a little insight on the mayor thinking that location isn't going up immediately.

The Denny's building is gone. Nothing but dirt on the site.

So the design shared last summer is the most current design. This is a new rendering/angle.

Re: 1650 Broadway
That sucks. That's now 3 dirt lots in my old stomping grounds with nothing built in them. The old Western envelope building going to be next?

Re: 1650 Broadway
Carry on with your development conversations. I just cringe when I see something torn down and nothing solid to replace it in my old neighborhood. Only thing left is the old fish house and Western Envolope building. My apartment building gone. Uncle's store gone ,as is the small 2 story apartments on south side of 17th st.

I think that the former Concentra Urgent Care is the only building getting demoed. Sorry to hear about thatKCKev wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:39 am Carry on with your development conversations. Re: 1650 Broadway
That building was what I called the jewelry factory as I would climb the rock retaining wall to go through their dumpster and find lots of rings and chains they discarded. Just north of Los Tules. I remember the apartments that used to be north of there. Don't think any KCRagers have lived in the downtown area as children, so non if this is interesting to them.

It's KcKev! Kansas City is always before Kev to me.
They are just buildings but leave them standing if you don't put in something better.
Use to truck up the hill to summit and go to Grams drugstore to drool at the toys. Thats where I bought my first kit and still fly kits to this day.
Seems Grams had a soda fountain you could sit at.

I don't know why those went away. A soda fountain drink tastes so much better than anything in a can or bottle.
That, and drug store lunch counters. Can't see why those would ever go out of style.

Re: 1650 Broadway
They went away because not every owner would have been honest and given a full amount of the soda syrup. Bottlers produced a consistent product in comparison.
Even with a more modern older soda machine in a fast food store, there's dials to turn up and down how much syrup is dispensed with each drink. So you could be getting an inferior product there to this day. I bet the Freestyle machines is one way Coke changed the game there, the software would control the mix.
A lot of bars today use equipment that pours the same amount every time for this reason because it's hard to digitize pouring from a bottle.
