Re: Unbuilt KC
There’s one interesting thing in the drawing of the vehicles.
I don’t see any doors. The one in the foreground you can see the curb side, the background the inside. So either way…
Really nice drawing, the perspective on top of a photo is excellent.

I’m a fan of the existing courthouse and its art deco motifs, but the unbuilt plan is a better building! Great find!FangKC wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 9:37 pm Architectural design for Jackson County Courthouse in downtown Kansas City.

We could use a new city hall and court house.

If that courthouse had been built back then, today there would be a giant tarp on top covering the statue of Andy Jackson.

Unbuilt Baltimore Hotel. No dates given. I makes me wonder if this was a proposed design for a replacement Baltimore Hotel on the NE corner of Baltimore and 12th Street after it was demolished. It's too art deco and stepped to be a design for the original Baltimore Hotel.

Original built Baltimore Hotel, opened 1899.

With addition built in 1904.

The original hotel building only stood 40 years. The addition stood 36 years. Doesn't seem like a long time for a building of such mass. The hotel had a beautiful lobby, atrium, and dining room. Probably much more so than the Muehlebach in that respect.

Re: Unbuilt KC
Late night finds on the web. These all appear to be concepts and never were actual proposals. The first two don't have context but were definitely connected.
16th and Main Southeast (2017)
17th and Walnut Northwest (2017)
18th and Walnut Southeast (El Dorado - 2020)

898 DU/Acre is a proposal for a radical new model of affordable housing. The concept creates a hyper-dense tower of units found only at the smallest and largest end of the apartment offering spectrum, including 128 studio apartments and 32 six-bedroom units. It employs realistic capital financing, extremely dense urbanization, and ecological stewardship in a revolutionary new housing prototype. It puts forth the belief that affordable housing is a key element of neighborhoods on the brink urbanization, doubling down on the issues of density, efficient use of space, and active participation in the city. At 898 dwelling units per acre, the project provides an influx of new residents to downtown, supporting the 12 micro-retail spaces at ground-level as well as the larger urban economy.

Well this is certainly interesting... Especially given the current KC development environment. Is it feasible? They included a proforma, but is it in any way realistic?Chris Stritzel wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 4:00 am Late night finds on the web. These all appear to be concepts and never were actual proposals. Re: Unbuilt KC
that would be a nice residential tower right next to Reverb and in a good spot of the crossroads. Hopefully it has some legs but I'm sure whatever pros it would bring the current council and their minions behind the scenes will take exception to it.

Re: Unbuilt KC
I'm 99% sure this was a student project concept thing, but it was used as a thing to prove that a project like that is possible. So, it could be realistic if someone wanted it to be, but as far as it being built, there's little to no chance

well it is a nice "dreamer" type of project. Plus I like the way 18th St. looks between Grand & Main, not the wreck it is today

That was around the time that the Hyatt branding was stripped from Crown Center IIRC.Chris Stritzel wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 1:57 am It looks like the original plan for 46 Penn Centre was a Hyatt Hotel. Renderings from 2012.

This is not KC, but it's interesting unbuilt projects.

Re: Unbuilt KC
Is there a local resource or institution that might have plans from projects proposed around town but never built? I’m trying to dig into the history of things, even if smaller buildings, that never made it past the planning stages.
