Re: West Plaza Flats
http://baarchitecture.com/projects/west ... lats/3ACACWest Plaza Flats is a co-housing and affordable housing project near the Country Club Plaza area in Kansas City currently in progress. It will provide rooms for 350 persons in a cohousing environment. On the North end of the project will be a commercial space that will also incorporate some of the amenities for the residents, along with a coffee shop, possible restaurant, banking facility and bodega.
The renders only show one retail entrance, so that's curious.

Re: West Plaza Flats
They clearly tried to not have something at ground level without having a giant open garage level

No, that thread is about demo to the NE of 44th and Belleview, this project is to the SW of that intersection. It was originally called Midtown Crossing, then 44 Belle, and I guess they settled on West Plaza Flats.kboish wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 8:15 pm Is this the previous thread?

Massive hole in the ground now. This project is going to be massive, albeit not a very walkable design.

Seems like this project is called "Midtown Crossing Apartments".

Re: West Plaza Flats
That is strange, "West Plaza" branding has more cachet than "Midtown."

Re: West Plaza Flats
Midtown Crossing was the original name of the project when it was first announced. Then it was called 44 Belle for a while before West Plaza Flats. I guess they are going back to the start.

This "student housing" is not very close to any of the schools. Strange.

My knowledge isn't completely current but as of a few years ago there were a decent number of KU Med/St. Luke's students living in West Plaza.

Re: West Plaza Flats
Snapped some pics while out walking yesterday. Quite a bit of progress since this project was last discussed. The Belleview and Madison corridor holds so much potential. The Madison project to the south on the triangular lot will really take the corridor to another level. The high vehicle speeds and terrible car sewer street design really holds it back though. I read on another thread that Price owns the cleared lots on the opposite side of the street one block north. That whole block seems primed for redevelopment as well. Hopefully something would get built on those lots first rather than waiting god knows how long to assemble the bank lot with it. I'd much rather see a phased redevelopment with a few smaller buildings than one monolith.

Curious if they will offer sublet leases. It's certainly a big city perk.

They have had two lanes blocked on SWT for Crane deconstruction a few weeks back. The project is looking great.

Re: West Plaza Flats
Oh really? Bummer. I have not actually tried it out yet. I'll probably have to see for myself at some point anyway when we're getting more consistent patio weather.
