That's fine. Personally I think the city should really start doing some deeper and higher quality thinking in it's approach to urban planning at this point rather then just reacting to any shovel ready project slapped on the table.WSPanic wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 2:59 pmDid I say there are "to" many hotels downtown?Steve52 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 2:31 pmSo your saying there are to many hotels downtown or something? You do realize it's a ten minute drive from downtown to The Plaz' right? Or maybe a little more if your using Public Transportation? Does the Plaza really need another hotel? Or is that all the developer has to offer?
I was just surprised that anyone would want to limit development in the city just because it doesn't happen to be taking place downtown. This is an existing hotel that is becoming a MUCH better hotel. We're getting a friggin' Kimpton and I'm stoked. It will be a great addition to the city despite the fact it isn't within the 50 square block area you seem to think should be exclusively developed at the expense of every other neighborhood in the city.

I can definitely agree with that. I just don't think it's fair to characterize this project as that.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
So I was under the impression that the Plaza was taking its time to fill vacancies, looking for more restaurants and higher quality but fewer retail stores?
I was a pretty surprised to see this announcement. https://www.kansascity.com/news/busines ... 33668.html
A mattress store. Really? This is a frontage road type business or worse. Just seems kind of desperate on the Plaza's part.

I guess they'd take a drug store if one made an offer, but maybe they are asking too much for CVS or Walgreens

Drugstore needed, yes. Basically all high end pedestrian shopping districts have one and visitors use them as well, especially hotel visitors - and of course residents. Mattress store, hmmm. And it's in a high profile location.

On the SE corner of W. 45th and Summit. This looks like it's going to turn out pretty ugly. Looks like an apartment building in Olathe.

Looking west at new residential construction along the north side of W. 46 Street between Summit and Jefferson.
Looking NE from W. 46th and Summit
Looking east on Summit just north of W. 46th Street.

I liked it better as an office building. That's a really ugly building for such a prominent corner.

I think maybe they were trying to resemble the Ponce De Leon up the Hill.

What corner is this on? Might have been tolerable for a mid block location but the giant windowless wall looks terrible on the corner. The whole thing just looks cheap.alejandro46 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 3:28 pm

Yes, it's the SE corner of W. 45th Street and Summit. Across the street (to the east) from The Tudors development.

So in other words, you're upset a developer focused on affordability.Highlander wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 12:24 pmWhat corner is this on? Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Honestly, I think this is an improvement. It was an ugly building. Now it's an ugly building with an interesting porch. It fits in with the plaza area better now, too.FangKC wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 11:30 pmBefore:earthling wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2017 1:34 pm An office building at NE corner of 47th/Main is going residential, luxury senior living.
