Discuss items in the urban core outside of Downtown as described above. Everything in the core including the east side (18th & Vine area), Northeast, Plaza, Westport, Brookside, Valentine, Waldo, 39th street, & the entire midtown area.
Good comments FangKC. All true. I specialize in this issue and I have been watching the Plaza trees closely. The key reason for so many dead trees on the Plaza this year is the salt. They are spreading too much salt. They are spreading it too sloppily and are throwing it onto the tree wells. They need to use a different, less harsh chemical. They also need to bring a water truck through in the early spring to flush the salt down before the tree starts pulling all the poisoned soil moisture in to prepare for bud swell and break.
They blame the trees, but they need to blame their snow contractor.
Westport had this same problem about 5 years ago and poisoned over 50 street trees. They got serious about tree health after that and the WRBL started educating the property owners and managers about proper snow treatment. They understand the value those street trees provide and want to preserve that resource.

Was that when they built the human cages to protect the trees?
45th & Summit apartment building has begun framing. Elevator tower has been sitting there for a little while as they built out the underground parking area.

Too bad St. John is moving — I feel like it is one of the last truly luxury brands on the Plaza — but glad they will remain in the market.
I hope Taubman can fill the space with two brands as unique and upscale as St. John. It’s a primo corner spot by Apple and Tiffany.

Gap is no longer moving to a different space - the plans 'fell through' due to lease negotiations not working out. Something doesn't sound right - the relocation had been communicated for months and at the last minute falls apart because they couldn't agree on a lease?
