Kansas City GO Bond
Is there a place to see what items might be included, other than infrastructure, in the bond?

I don't think it's been defined yet what the bond will cover. Will need to wait.

Re: Kansas City GO Bond
a few things have been promoted by various city officials (not much in the media, so you'd have to be listening to lots of neighborhood and city-level discussions):
- new broadway bridge (mayor/city manager?)
- prospect MAX local funding for capital cost (reed, previously "committed" by council resolution but not from this exact source)
- major sidewalk investment (wagner)
- aquarium (canady)
- major roads investment (shields)
but there appears to be no consensus yet, other than an april 2016 ballot. i've heard totals in the $250-300 million range. some wanted more (upwards of $1 billion), but since a property tax increase is required that appears to have come down quite a bit.
staff probably started with trying to attack some low citizen satisfaction results -- roads, sidewalks, and transit remain stubbornly low for obvious reasons -- but clearly special interests are lining up.
who the hell wants a second aquarium? (rhetorical question)

I kind of thought GO bonds were only designed for infrastructure type things but then I read aquarium which gets me thinking, is anything off limits?DaveKCMO wrote:what does KCRAG think we should spend the debt money on?

go through and find all the short sections of things that would improve the entire network. like N. Oak between 29 and NKC has a LOT of disconnected sidewalks where they stop before the street. downtown has a lot of sections of sidewalk where replacing 2-3 squares every few blocks and finishing a few curb cuts would make a nice street to walk on for a mile. Rather than doing single big street projects where one street gets workeed on for several miles pick off these little piddly items on major corridors that take a lot of time to get done otherwise.DaveKCMO wrote:what does KCRAG think we should spend the debt money on?
curb no parking zone painting downtown. would be nice to actually let people see they can't park there beyond a sign. it's hard to say you don't know that's no parking, the sign is confusing, if your car is half overlapping yellow paint. We used to have this and it works quite well for basic traffic control.
implement disabled spots downtown more places. Like go down the streetcar corridor and you're not going to find free spots on street for disabled vehicles only easily except on Delaware. a handful of closest spots to every train stop should be for disabled individuals only. this is a problem across downtown in general. Giving up some of the best spots to the people the least capable of moving a long distance makes sense.

- close sidewalk gaps (all districts)DaveKCMO wrote:what does KCRAG think we should spend the debt money on?
- add sidewalks to neighborhoods currently lacking (most districts)
- major buildout of bike network (3rd & 4th)
- New Broadway Bridge/decommission North Loop (1st, 2nd, 4th)
- Reconstruction & road diet of arterials in depopulated neighborhoods (3rd, 4th, 5th)
- Streetscape work on other arterials (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th)
- Transit capital improvements such as superstops, improved stops, make sure Northland stops don't drop you off in a ditch (all districts)
- Streetcar expansion (4th district)

Re: Kansas City GO Bond
My vehicle is often disabled. I generally just leave it wherever it dies, or try myself to get it running again or get my girlfriend to push it home. I'm sure she'd be happy if there were more spots available for disabled vehicles, because then she could just push it to one of those spots and not have to get it all the way home. Luck for her, though, I live near the river so it's almost always mostly downhill.flyingember wrote:implement disabled spots downtown more places. Re: Kansas City GO Bond
I hope the focus of this GO Bond is on streets, sidewalks, bridges.
Specific projects?
How about fixing southwest trafficway, Westport road (west of the trafficway), and in general fix the intersection of westport and southwest trafficway.
Broadway Bridge replacement is ok to me (I'd also be open to putting a toll on it to maintain it, but that will never happen).
I also think investment in public transit downtown should be done. It could be stop improvements, helping implement making grand, grand, etc.

A new bridge means it will be easier for them to get to their private planes at the downtown airport.DaveKCMO wrote:how would you sell that to the 5th and 6th districts?grovester wrote:Broadway Bridge for sure.
