According to the gentleman at Slabotsky & Sons--which also up until recently leased space in the Bryant Building--the owners are turning it into a "tech hotel" (his words) to capitalize on the Google Fiber network and were renovating that space into a lounge area for the new tenants. His former space at 1102 Grand is being gutted and utilized for generators. It's a shame to lose street-level retail for a non-public use like that. Slabotsky & Sons moved just down the street to a space on the ground floor of the Wall Street Tower garage.
woah. I've heard it's seriously hard to get a generator into downtown (approved?)
the building I'm in has a fraction of a second auto-fail switch to the backup KCPL power grid
From something I heard in passing the Pentouse in the Union Carbide building is getting renovated for future sale.
They're trying to sell one unit that was rental. The building is apparently mostly rental units with selling in mind.
The plans have yet to happen but the garage at 9th and Wyandotte is supposed to someday be torn out and the building next to it taken out and one big parking garage put in. they built the current garage with a really good foundation
Not sure why given there's a mostly empty garage a block away on Baltimore.

Which garage on Baltimore is empty? City Center Square's?

corner of 9th and Baltimore. Last time I was in it during the middle of the day it the thing was 2/3 empty.
Has anybody heard if anything will happen to the lot where they just demolished the unused parking garage at 8th & Grand? It's been graded and seeded for now.

Don't recall that being the case the last time I went by there.
Hopefully someone buys and puts in a mixed retail/residental project. downtown could use an electronics store for one.
that's a very big lot for that part of town.
That parcel is included with the purchase of the Power and Light Building (as well as the vacant parcel to the west)
the same company owns everything on that block except the Crown Plaza hotel
it's really easy to lookup ownership of land in KC http://maps.kcmo.org/apps/parcelviewer/
Though that doesn't mean it's all for sale to the same people
That corner has a storied history. It was once the site of the famous Eddy's Restaurant, a swanky nightspot from the Swing Era in Kansas City. Count Basie played there for years.
The exterior of Eddy's Restaurant.
Eddy's Restaurant and Nightclub after the building facade was changed, and it became Old Republic Title.
