I heard from a cop it was at his house, the method he did it was with a bag and helium, i guess this is a common way to commit suicide

How about this warm winter? I have a European palm planted in my back yard that is freakin' surviving so far. Today or tomorrow should be a record breaker in some (everywhere?) spots in the state.

KC has more snow plows per square mile than Cleveland, Chicago, Minneapolis or Buffalo.

It's still February, right? Too early for thunder storms and tornado warnings.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
Weird. I noticed today some of the trees are like that behind the Home Builders Association at 103rd and Holmes. I looked at one close up and a large branch and section of the tree was split (still partially attached). I guess it must have been the wind. I don't recall noticing the trees that way until today (Wednesday). Yet PS's picture is from Monday. Odd.

So... there is a good chance that we may be headed towards severe drought conditions. And in time for fireworks season.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
getting exceptionally brutal on the east side of the state (I imagine it's the same in KC). yesterday was 106 and it was 90 when I got to work this morning so I'm going to guess 108 today. of course it's always hotter in the city than at Lambert. power went out last night for a while...that was interesting...
tomorrow i get to attend an outdoor wedding in JoCo.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
It seems like KC or Kansas locations take the "hottest city" title a lot in the summer time. And from the ASG, it seems like KC has a rep of being this ultra-hot city. Has it always been this way? When I was a kid in KC, I thought it was hot here, but I didn't think it was one of the hottest cities in the US. I always thought that was like Phoenix or somewhere in the deep South or Texas. Has KC always been this hot?

Considering that we're getting very close to if not actually breaking temperature records, I think it's safe to say that it hasn't always been this hot.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
According to people in Phoenix, the humidity is what makes people think KC is hotter than Phoenix.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
But it was when the temperature record was set? 1988 was a brutal summer...from what I hear...so was 1980...then some time in the 1950's...then the Dust Bowl. Think we are just having a summer similar to those...mean wrote:Considering that we're getting very close to if not actually breaking temperature records, I think it's safe to say that it hasn't always been this hot.

I mean in relative terms to the rest of the nation. Overall I would imagine its getting hotter everywhere (from what? who knows?)mean wrote:Considering that we're getting very close to if not actually breaking temperature records, I think it's safe to say that it hasn't always been this hot.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
Since 1889, we have had three spells of consecutive 79 degree or higher average temp summers. These include 1931-1939, 1952-1957, and potentially 2010-2012. 1934 (84.9) was the hottest we have been on average, compared to 2010's 79.7. I never really realized how brutal the 30s were until I looked at the link, and I never knew that the 50s were so hot.NDTeve wrote:But it was when the temperature record was set? 1988 was a brutal summer...from what I hear...so was 1980...then some time in the 1950's...then the Dust Bowl. To be fair, consistent 90+ degree weather without much cooldown in the evenings could give you 84.9, but people will remember a week of 100+ a lot more, even if the average is much lower. I distinctly remember that Lawrence, Kansas was the hottest place in the US for a few days in August of 2000, but that was overall a pretty mild summer and fall.
In the winter, since 1888, we have had 14 winters that average above 36 degrees. 5 of those have been in the last 15 years.

Maybe this Drought was actually a good thing for Missouri. Pretty much every state that surrounds us has a lot of high cases of West Nile Virus, Missouri only has 9 cases in the entire state, 16 are in Sedgwick County alone.
