A McDonald's is being built next to Smokehouse at 63rd and N.Oak and a Wendy's is going in one of the two sites that are being worked on right now in the Lowe's center at Vivion and N. Oak.

Re: OFFICIAL: Antioch Crossing
They can't demolish until (a) Sears' trial against the developers; or (b) the injunction is overturned by an appeals court, at least by my understanding.

Re: OFFICIAL: Antioch Center
According the northland neighbors newletter, everything has been worked out with Sears.
http://www.nni.org/newsletters/current-newsletter.pdf (page2)
I also received an email about the demolition a couple of days ago from northland neighbors. It sounds like if all goes well, they will start demolition this month.
Here is part of that message:
Wednesday, October 12, 6 - 7 p.m.
Northland Neighborhoods, Inc.
3015 NE Vivion Road (next to Tires Plus)
Demolition bids are in and contractors have been selected. Utility rerouting is underway. Demolition plans have been submitted to the City of Kansas City and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Approval is expected in October 2011. Once permits are in place, Phase 1 demolition, which includes the mall south of Burlington Coat Factory, should begin immediately. Projected completion of this phase of demolition and environmental abatement is currently set for Spring 2012. Hear more details at the meeting on October 12. You will also get a preview of the site plan for the new Antioch Mall.

Utility rerouting and extensions are ongoing now in Chouteau in support of the tenants that will remain in Phase I. Abatement is happening inside the southern half of the mall (south of Burlington), then that area can be torn down.

For those of you who don't drive past this every day, demolition is occurring now. They've got the front torn down and are working their way through the mall. Sorry, I don't have any pics.

Re: OFFICIAL: Antioch Center
I think the corner of Vivion and Antioch is a prime area to begin building denser development in the Northland. I'd love to see less surface parking and more development fronting the street. I think if that entire parcel were developed in a denser fashion it could have a significant positive effect on the surrounding (currently declining) neighborhoods.NorthlandGuy wrote:http://antiochcrossing.com/

Re: OFFICIAL: Antioch Center
They'd have more luck turning this into a residential development, something like apartment buildings. Building a new shopping center (Outdoor or not) in that location is asinine. There's a reason that the original shopping center eventually crumbled and failed, do we really need to see it fail twice? Yuck.

Re: OFFICIAL: Antioch Center
We used to go to Antioch Mall all the time. It suit us just fine. We stopped going, not because it failed, but because some moron development company chased off all the tenants. And then they left the whole thing "standing," crumbling in the elements and allowing it to disintegrate into an uninhabitable corpse. I will gladly welcome any successful attempt to revitalize the place with shops. So will a lot of other people.
