Re: Starlight Theater to Double Summer Concert Schedule
Starlight and Sprint Center are dividing up the shows that normally would be booked at Sandstone and other Verizon Amph around the country. Are those booked by Live Nation? Looking at the STL Verizon Amp, KC is getting most of those shows between Starlight and SC.

Re: Starlight Theater to Double Summer Concert Schedule
For many years after Chris Fritz/Contemporary Productions took over Sandstone it was a happening place. Believe 35 to 40 concerts or events took place during its 5 to 6 months of operation during the year. Season tickets and ticket packages were sold. And the release of the concert schedule and when tickets went on sale were well advertised. And during that time Starlight really wasn't considered a concert option since the Association did not encourage a concert schedule - it was a theater not a concert hall.trailerkid wrote: I didn't live in this region during Sandstone's glory days (whenever that was) but Starlight seems like a such a better venue in almost every way.

Starlight is 10x better than Sandstone, and in a way better location. Good riddance, Sandstone.

Re: Starlight Theater to Double Summer Concert Schedule
Yes, Starlight did host some concerts and I attended a few (Paul Revere and the Raiders in 1970 for one) but the Association for many, many years did not want an extensive concert schedule. So, at most, they would have 4 to 6 a season. Therefore, yes the facility was more of a theater than a concert hall.trailerkid wrote: The Grateful Dead played Starlight before Sandstone opened...

Do we need another 20k seat amphitheater? I would love to see one downtown in PVP or the riverfront, but I would also like to see Starlight and Sprint stay busy, especially since Sprint Center doesn’t have any major sports tenants.
Verizon Redneckatheater Sandstone can burn down and rest in peace.

Nope. that is what the Wizards stadium can get used for.

Yea, ideally I would love a riverfront ampitheater, but it looks like we are going to be using Starlight, and in a few years, the Wizards stadium. So I think that ship has sailed for now.GRID wrote: Do we need another 20k seat amphitheater? Re: Starlight Theater to Double Summer Concert Schedule
Thanks...that's just not what you wrote in your previous post. It sounds like Starlight maintained a concert schedule similar to a few years ago (2-3 concerts per season compared to 7-10 now).aknowledgeableperson wrote: Yes, Starlight did host some concerts and I attended a few (Paul Revere and the Raiders in 1970 for one) but the Association for many, many years did not want an extensive concert schedule. Re: Starlight Theater to Double Summer Concert Schedule
After they tried a few concerts for a few years in the early 70's (don't forget before that time there were plays just about every night of every week during the summer). I think they did not host concerts for a few years in the middle and late 70's since most did not do very well and they didn't really want rock and roll there. Afterall, outdoor theaters were rather a novelty before the 70's. It was about the time when Sandstone was built that these outdoor theaters took off nationally and acts adapted their shows to these facilities.

Re: Starlight Theater to Double Summer Concert Schedule
Phish is playing here August 22nd, surprised they choose Starlight. Plenty of other bigger venues to play at in the area. I think this 2nd half of the summer tour they focused on smaller venues rather then the larger amphitheaters

Re: Starlight Theater to Double Summer Concert Schedule
They must be catching a broader audience, playing bigger venues. I saw them at sold out Uptown a few years ago. They seem to like KC as they generally don't hit too many Midwest cities. Looks like only 10 US dates so far.

First major renovation in 20 years & it's putting in a "canopy" that looks like the Wembley arch.
