suggestion: Power & Light bus to Kauffman
My friends and I were talking this weekend about getting to the stadium now that the ATA has dumped their Royals Express and we came up with an idea.
Why doesn't the P&L, Cordish, etc. host a bus to games? They could charge 15 bucks which gets you some pre-drinking tickets or something and transportation to/from the game.
Seems like that would be a good way to both bring people down and give options for people going to the game. Then post-game you have customers right at your door for post game victory parties.
Think that would work?

I actually heard a rumor that Cordish is working on this, but it won't be up til later this summer. Makes a lot of sense though. Many bars in St. Louis will give you free shuttle rides to Cards and Rams games if you buy a drink there.

I'm amazed they are talking about this for later in the summer. Perhaps they are trying to get some compensation worked out from the Royals. Sounds like a no-brainer service that they should offer ASAP. Won't be shocked if/when other areas start to copy this. I'm much more likely to get a group to go with me to a Royals game if none of us have to drive home from the stadium.
Just imagine, no wearing of sports apparel with 81 home games a year.

Probably lots of details to work out - like parking issues w/ the city (do you get two dollar validation for the whole time you are out there?) and where can you park for day games - who carriers the liability coverage, etc. Probably not just as easy as renting a school bus and telling people to show up.

Its not exactly like baseball season snuck up on them. They've had over a year to think about this.

Lenexa...yeah lots od details to work out but that's why I am just an idea guy.
Parking shouldn't be a problem, they regularly advertise 2 buck parking any time of the day now.

In fairness, the city only announced that they were cutting out the ATA service a few weeks ago - a P&L/Kaufman shuttle might not have been such a no brainer when the city was offering a competing service just up the block.bobbyhawks wrote: Its not exactly like baseball season snuck up on them. Good point. It is my belief that the P&L service would/will attract many people who would never ride a city bus (esp. if the bars are advertising it and selling tix), but I can see how there would be hesitation to duplicate a route like that.LenexatoKCMO wrote: In fairness, the city only announced that they were cutting out the ATA service a few weeks ago - a P&L/Kaufman shuttle might not have been such a no brainer when the city was offering a competing service just up the block.

Probably a 50/50 - you will gain some folks who might have been scared off by a city bus - but you will probably also loose some families that don't want to take their kids on a bus from the bar with drunk, rowdy passangers (not that you can't find that kind of excitement on the ATA from time to time ).bobbyhawks wrote: Good point. The ATA made the decision to cut the stadium routes, not the city. It's a subtle distinction, but important for understanding the situation.LenexatoKCMO wrote: In fairness, the city only announced that they were cutting out the ATA service a few weeks ago - a P&L/Kaufman shuttle might not have been such a no brainer when the city was offering a competing service just up the block.

Indeed. I meant "the city" in the broadest, ATA-including, civic-powers-that-be sense of the word. Sorry for any confusion.dangerboy wrote: The ATA made the decision to cut the stadium routes, not the city. It's a subtle distinction, but important for understanding the situation.

excellent! this solves two problems: 1) the stadiums' location (no fun nearby) and 2) the lack of ATA express service!

BTw, this suggestion could go for any area or district....just seems P&L would have the horsepower to pull it off and b) it's closest to me

I'm trying to get the Westin, Hyatt, and Crown Center to get a shuttle started. That would be great for me

Perhaps the Royal's could designate Tejeda for assignment as bus driver?

Knowing his control, the bus would end up in Chillicothe, MO.LenexatoKCMO wrote: Perhaps the Royal's could designate Tejeda for assignment as bus driver?
