I went to the Blue Ridge Mall tonight to see if anything is left. Well, there is a little. But WaldenBooks will be closing on 1/16. (Bargain books are 50% off and everything else is about 15% off)
Has anyone heard any updates about the status of the KC Mart moving there from OP? Supposedly (according the The Eximer) the lease has been signed. I really hope somthing moves in soon. I don't want to see what was once the premiere shopping venue in Eastern Jack succome to the wrecking ball.

I thought about emailing the business writers at the Examiner and Star to get an update.
I think the mall owners want to clear out the mall so they can raze it for redevelopment. I don't understand what's going on there. I guess the mall is payed for so they don't care?
I have said it a million times over, that area could easily support a new 500,000 sq ft retail center and would be a good place to use tiff. Why not do a urbanism thing there like what's getting built at old Stapleton Airport in Denver? Why such a major route into KC looks so bad I have no idea.
The area has good demographics still and the ability to tap into commuter traffic and pass by tourists has to be incredible.
MoDot needs to rebuild I-70 through Independence though. I guess we will have to wait till they rebuild and expand every single road in StL before they start to rebuild a major freeway in an inner suburban area of KC.
Another topic though.

Must be tough times in the book biz: The B. Dalton's in Metro North is having a similar going-out-of-business sale.SonicBoi wrote:I went to the Blue Ridge Mall tonight to see if anything is left. That's because peeps in KC can't read. At least they are building more movie theaters.KC0KEK wrote:Must be tough times in the book biz: The B. Dalton's in Metro North is having a similar going-out-of-business sale.
Anyhow, why go to those mall book stores when you can get books cheaper at Borders? Same with the mall music stores.

Off topic, but MoDOT is doing a study on rebuilding I-70 through Jackson County. Hopefully once the study is done political and business leaders throughout the county will push really hard for the General Assembly to cough up the money, and hopefully also kick in some of our own county money for good will. We have a big voice if we all yell together, but unfortunately urban and surburban powers in St. Louis usually work together much better in Jeff City and therefore get more money than KC.
