The Star reports today that the National Garage will fall next month because The Alexander Co., a Madison, Wisc., developer said it would cost $11 million to fix it up. Hopefully, we'll get another surface lot Just what we need!
They're the one's developing the Professional Building. From the article it sounds like they've been sitting around with the Professional Building and intend on doing it for time to come.

this is one case where I wouldn't mind a surface lot.....it's 100 times better than that mess.
Of course I'm not hoping for it but anything is better than that burned out mess....getting rid of this building will do a lot for the perception of downtown all by itself.

Thanks, also, is the lot really going to be built or do you suppose itll be a office structure or even a better parking garage?

I know it's too expensive bla bla bla...but this building is awesome (or at least was) and I wish they could save it. Its the type of structure that separates the city from the burbs. That Art Deco detail is awesome...you can't even tell its a garage. Irreplaceable:(

I agree, this building should be preserved and reused-- even if it costs $11 million.
