Ballot Issue gets even more financially questionable
The Star this morning is reporting that the county is striking a deal where by much of the proceeds of the rolling roof naming rights would be donated to charity! God forbid that naming rights would be used to help augment the taxpayers' billion dollar investment, as is the case with virtually every other publicly financed stadium. They are just going to give it away! God forbid we might use that money to help defray some of the costs or reduce the tax burden!

WTF? What possible reason could they have for giving it to charity?

Buisness leader say that since tehy will be payiong the majority of the Tax they want a say in where it will be spent. They want it to go to charity.
Well fuck that, since when do any of us REALLY get to say what our taxes get spent on.

This only makes passage more difficult. The people running this thing are morons. Why not just cut the tax short and use the naming rights for that?

Sounds to me like they are trying to make some of the same mistakes that were made with BII - "lets throw in something that will make every voter feel nice and warm and fuzzy, no matter how bloated, confusing, or cobbled the thing becomes". Â

Re: Ballot Issue gets even more financially questionable
What I don't get is that the tax is already short of the 200 million, which is why they needed to go after naming rights. (I still think it's dumb to name a ROOF, but this whole scheme is dumb).

Great take. I think this is just a way to get more money into the pockets of the Royals. They are such a sorry franchise right now, they could probably be considered a charity case.LenexatoKCMO wrote: Sounds to me like they are trying to make some of the same mistakes that were made with BII - "lets throw in something that will make every voter feel nice and warm and fuzzy, no matter how bloated, confusing, or cobbled the thing becomes". Re: Ballot Issue gets even more financially questionable
Article says the Chiefs will use their own money to make up the difference caused by donated the naming rights money to charity. Instead, how about using that money to lessen the tax burden?
This is a bribe being offered to the voters, plain and simple.

Questionable! Questionable! Questionable!
Maybe there is some sort of conspiracy in which the council is actually trying to fuck this deal up even more than BS2...

By council, do you mean the Jax Co. Legislature? Apparently they were somewhat clueless--the teams thought this thing up. It says Shields knew about it ("Oh--wonderful idea boss! I mean boys!), but other top legislators had no idea about it.BVC wrote: Maybe there is some sort of conspiracy in which the council is actually trying to fuck this deal up even more than BS2...
Which makes it all the more suspicious.

They are the ones that get into fist fights at their meetings, and behave like middle schoolers by refusing to sit next to someone they don't like.Kard wrote: By council, do you mean the Jax Co. Legislature? Apparently they were somewhat clueless

Re: Ballot Issue gets even more financially questionable
i would not worry too much now..........................the nfl is offering some real assistance to the cause, by having their first real labor dispute in close to 20 years on the eve of the voting. damn good timing for you opponents of the measure.
intresting, the side of the parking lot who usually has nothing but labor hell, the k, is heading towards more and more peaceful labor deals, and the side that always is stable, arrowhead, is going to make sure and screw this up royally.

The MLBs labor peace has left us with one of the worst teams of all time. Aren't we lucky.kcdcchef wrote: intresting, the side of the parking lot who usually has nothing but labor hell, the k, is heading towards more and more peaceful labor deals, and the side that always is stable, arrowhead, is going to make sure and screw this up royally.

But that's due more to sheer incompetence by management and apathy by ownership than anything.

A lot of little "charities" around town are dumping grounds for mistresses and ne'er do well relatives of the politicians. This is a way to fund them withhout all those city and county grants. Makes it a little harder for a reporter to actually uncover.

Here you go chef, cut+paste=
I think it is now clear the Star would salivate over and enthusiastically support anything related to the TSC, even an additional sales tax to build a monument featuring the world's largest piece of shit. They have absolutely no credibility anymore.
Some roof opponents contend that the $170 million figure ought to be lower, with more money coming from the private sector.
However, the key fact to remember is that the $170 million cost resulted from intense negotiations.
Wow, we only have to foot the bill for 85% of an unnecessary room designed in the 1970s. What a deal.
The Star supports Question 2 because it could bring a Super Bowl and perhaps many other major events to Kansas City. The plan to help charities would be a tremendous bonus to the world’s largest rolling roof.
And since we'd have the world's largest rolling roof, why not spend a little more for that monumental piece of shit to be the highlight of the new development around the TSC.

This charities thing is bullshit. The Chiefs already give a lot of money to charities, so basically the Chiefs will lower their regular giving and use the roof funds instead. The net to charities won't get a notacable bump from this. What a crock.jerry12 wrote: A lot of little "charities" around town are dumping grounds for mistresses and ne'er do well relatives of the politicians. This is a way to fund them withhout all those city and county grants. Makes it a little harder for a reporter to actually uncover.
