Big sucker.  Thought they had to be 150' from a park.  Can't see how it measures that far from Ilus Davis.

HOW DID THEY GET A %$^&* PERMIT?

Obnoxious, but it could be a lot worse.

I wondered what everyone was talking about so I walked over there a few minutes ago.  Here's a couple of pictures of the travesty.

The City should respond by altering the East Loop plan so that this builboard is surrounded by tall structures.  :)

How in the hell did something like this go through?  The city is worried about little billboards on the Broadway extension, but doesn't care about a massive billboard in the middle of downtown?

Who will see it besides government employees and homeless people?

I couldn't see it at all from the highway the first time I tried to spot it.

See, that's what I thought. I parked in that lot this morning when I went in to testify at Landmarks.
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!
150 ft. is like 50 yards. I'm no math wiz but I'm thinkin that's a far cry from 50 yards, ya know!
But you KNOW if the city put it up to advertise the Swope Golf Course - then its all okey dokey.

Maybe they're adopting a 'Missouri countryside' theme for Ilus-Davis Park. Anyone who's driven the length of I-70 should be familiar with it.

Collison wrote about this today.  The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.  The city is trying to buy the site before advertising goes up on the billboard.

I wonder what services/products/messages the ad agency is intenting to post on a billboard that faces the Federal Courthouse on one side and City Hall on the other?

This billboard got addressed in the star today.  I have to believe the owner of the property new of the plans for the area which, coupled with the timing, makes me think this is just a ploy to get more money for the land out of the city.

Makes perfect sense.  I can't blame the owner one bit--smart guy.

Hopefully he doesn't own any bars in need of parking variances in town.

I think it is pretty funny.  You may think it is a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.  It is a little of that, but it is really a case of the left hand not crossing all of its "t's" and dotting its "i's"
When this project was going through the dicussion phase an order should have gone out, by the Council, stating "no new permits to be issued in this area until further notice".
I may be right.  I may be wrong.  But there is a lot of gray area in-between.
