NHL fans simply spend more money. NHL attendance is slightly better as in percentage of available seats sold as well.

I personally prefer basketball and from an operations standpoint flipping the arena from hockey to concert or basketball is much harder and time consuming.

Capacity for NHL is lower than NBA, so is attendance higher by total or percentage? Sorry, just curious about these things. Obviously ice is more expensive to maintain so I would imagine that would effect total site revenue.

You can't get a ticket in the top of the top deck on a weeknight at a Caps game for under $50. A decent lower row upper deck seat is typically $80-90. Forget lower deck anywhere for under 150.

Those prices are way too high for KC, but I realize DC is a different market (much larger and more affluent).

I still think KC would support either NHL or NBA. Like the Royals and in some years even the Chiefs, the problem is they can't sell tickets. Everybody in KC is a sports fan and they watch the games on TV, but showing up and paying pro prices for tickets seems to be more of a struggle. The Royals barely got to average by MLB standards when they went to the WS and two years later they were back in the bottom five. The Chiefs are consistently one of the cheapest tickets in the NFL and their attendance drops quickly if they start to lose.

It's such a waste that KC doesn't have a team in the winter for having such a nice arena. Downtown still really needs something like a pro team to bring people down there on a regular basis and concerts is not regular enough.

And "KC" does not have a college team. It's not like Jayhawks play in the city more than a couple of times a year. Plus, it's about time for KC to grow up and care a little less about colleges (that are not even based in the city) and try to get a pro team.

Still, it's worth a try even if KC is just another low revenue nobody team in the NBA or NHL. It would still be great for the city, especially downtown.

I’m all for getting a pro team but college basketball has been very kind to KC and we have established ourselves as a great college basketball city and market.

I get that and KC is great at hosting tourneys and stuff like that. But there is not even a team based in the city. It would be different if KC was like Louisville and actually had a team that played downtown. It doesn't, so move on and get a pro team to make the city more vibrant, something that running around town with college license plate logos and college sports gear doesn't really do. KC is a place where everybody has to constantly tell each other and everybody they come in contact with that they went to KU or MU or Kstate or OU, or Nebraska. Who cares lol. KC needs a pro team, downtown needs a team. Maybe it will take their minds off where they went (or wish they could have gone) to college 20 years ago. Will KC pay top NHL/NBA prices every night, every year? Probably not, but they don't have too. Lots of cities don't.
