Sonics on their way out of Seattle?

The commissioner of the NBA is upset with Seattle and it's taxpayers. The lease on Key Arena is up in 2010 and it's apparently not a very good lease. There's no mention of relocation possibilities in the article but it did mention Oklahoma City and the Hornets thing. Could we be looking at a possible tennant for the Sprint Center?

Franchises at the ends of their leases are daytrippers. I wouldn't get a jimmy until there was some serious news.

I agree, but I personally perfer "Kansas City Kings." What other name goes better with the Royals and Chiefs? Plus, we my not have 5 billionaires, but I think we have like 6 or 7 kings!

While Seattleites may have shrugged off the Sonics' demand for a major arena renovation, plenty of cities appear eager to lure the basketball club to their home court.
And Kansas City is so hungry for professional sports that voters there helped fund a brand new, $276 million facility even before the city has secured an NBA or National Hockey League franchise to play there.
In Kansas City, the Sprint Center has sold out all 66 luxury suites even before the operators have been able to secure an anchor tenant.
They're confident they can find an NBA or NHL team to play there when the arena opens next year, said Michael Roth, vice president of communications for AEG, which operates the city-owned Sprint Center and also owns and operates the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
AEG is currently negotiating with several NBA and NHL franchises, but he wouldn't say whether the Sonics are among them.
San Jose and OKC are also discussed...
Me personally? I won't get excited until a deal is signed. Too many cities will use/have used us as a bargaining chip...

We're getting our money's worth out of the arena simply from the publicity caused by teams playing us for arena improvments.

Whatever team we get, we need to be prepared for 10-15 years later when they start complaining the Sprint Center is outdated and they need the city to upgrade it. It shouldn't surprise anyone if we are faced with a $100-200 million tax "renovate" the Sprint Center before the original bonds are paid off.

I'd prefer our own nickname too....it's more a symbolic logo than actual usage.

The Sonics are not leaving the Puget Sound area. If Seattle chases them away, they move to Bellevue or Renton. I am shocked none of the articles mentioned this, since this is the most likely scenario.
