Moving somewhere...out in Lenexa
Well, the time is coming up fast where we have to move. My fiance is enrolling as a grad student at KU and we have to move out of downtown Kansas City. Beyond the fact that I swore I'd never move into the 'burbs, we are in the process of looking to rent.
Here is what we're looking for - something unique. I know, I know, don't laugh. But seriously, something with charm or something out of the ordinary. We spend about 875 right now for our loft downtown plus electricity (ave. $80 a month), and don't really want to go any higher. We need at least 1100 square feet and storage/garage unit preferably. Does anyone have any recommendations for places, either to rent or perhaps even purchase that is near the highway in or around the Lenexa/Olathe area?
Cheers~

Unfortunately, Lawrence isn't an option. It is too far from my workplace.

Get a new job?
Downtown to Lawrence isn't a whole lot worse than Lenexa to Lawrence.

No such option, nor would I set aside four years and a Director position to do as such.

Start address: Lenexa, KS
End address: Lawrence, KS
Distance: 31.6 mi (about 38 mins)

Start address: Kansas City, MO
End address: Lawrence, KS
Distance: 41.0 mi (about 45 mins)
It doesnt seem like a good compromise, at all.

This is what I tried to explain to my fiance, but she's insistant we move closer to Lawrence (preferably Lenexa). She mentioned Desoto and Eudora, and I was like hell no. No damn way.

New fiance? I'm trying here! I-70 is probably a safer drive than K-10 anyway.

Msg that lenexatokcmo guy, even though he left lenexa for downtown, i believe...
Eudora is practically Lawrence...
Personally, i'd take the hit, buy a very fuel efficient vehicle, wait for that Lawrence to KC commuter train to come online, and live in Larrytown.  :)
I mean if the other only option is living in Lenexa...

Seriously... there's head-ons and rollovers on K-10 fairly often.
Unless you consider an old house in old town Lenexa funky, you're not going to find anything funky in Lenexa.
Maybe it's time to reconsider having a fiance?

Re: Moving somewhere...out in Lenexa
1-70 would definitely be a straighter, and safer, shot. The cost we'd save living somewhere else and the toll would certainly be much better than renting in Lenexa.
Anyone have other recommendations that would put us 30 miles outside of Lawrence, or other options that would put us a bit further down I-70?

Re: Moving somewhere...out in Lenexa
Might be able to find an historic home in the Main Street area of one of the towns along I-70, maybe Bonner Springs or Edwardsville. I-70 is much better than K-10. I know a few people that commute from Lawrence to KC and they all think the toll is well worth avoiding the congestion on K-10 and I-35...

Re: Moving somewhere...out in Lenexa
Ironically, I used to live in far western lenexa for the reason that life used to take me to Lawrence on a very regular basis. There are several decent compexes out around the 435/K10 junction (I used to live at Chesapeake), and you should be able to find something reasonably close to your price/square ft requirements with a carport; but I wouldn't begin to call any of it "unique". I don't imagine any of the houses out that way are going to rent that low. Most everything out that way for that price is going to be in a big commercial complex. For what its worth, I found the folks at Chesapeake to be pretty fair to deal with.warwickland wrote: Msg that lenexatokcmo guy, even though he left lenexa for downtown, i believe......
I grew up in Lenexa and generally like the place but if I were in my twenties or early thirties with no kids, I would choose to live in Larrytown over Lenexa even if it meant a long commute.

Dude, i'd just move to Larrytown and commute along I-70. Â You're going to have to commute anyway, might as well have an interesting/eclectic place to come home to (that is if you get a place in dt Lawrence....).
Lenexa is suburbia through and through, no suggestions come to mind.

Personally, I think it would be worth it to live in Lawrence for the reason alone that at least one of you can live relatively car free, as opposed to both having a commute of varying lengths.Â
That arrangement might even be easier on gasoline use, perhaps.

Re: Moving somewhere...out in Lenexa
If I were you, I would stay clear of Lenexa in less of course you are hispanic and want to stick with your culture. OP and Olathe have a lot of homes for rent. Obviously you may pay a little bit more (maybe 100-200 extra) in OP or Olathe but it will be worth it in th long run. My parents are curently looking for a home for rent in OP/Olathe and we have found many around $900-1,100 a month for a 3 br 2 bath home with 1,300 sq. ft.
