Was going to post that. How could replace it? Bloomingdales? Meijer?

Well that sucks. Last of retail at Metro North. Northland has so little retail compared to JOCO, 1 Dillards will be the only department store. There will be nothing that replaces it guaranteed. They will bulldoze the site and fill it in with shitty apartments & retail pad sites. Such a shame the Metros second largest mall & retail revenue generator was left to rot & the developers who did get something finally developed have delivered and pretty shitty product. RIP Macy’s and any chance for the Northland to have developed a nice retail area. Oh well

My bets are on bulldoze with no replacement planned. It'll sit as an empty field like half of space up there right now for quite some time.

Doesn't Macy's own this building? Will the developer buy it?

IAS (Metro North redeveloper) purchased the Macy's building/land in July. "It’s an exciting step for the redevelopment of Metro North to bring some new uses to the building."
Petitioned the land to be added to the MN CID in NPD this week.

Yeah, that whole development at Metro North is really sad. Just seems to be slapped together with no real plan. It's like they will build whatever they can find to lease the buildings. Really sucks such a great corner on 169 & Hwy 152 in the middle of the Northland is just a mishmash of development and mostly crappy retail and average at best residential multifamily. It would have been mid/higher end development in the 1990's but it's 30yrs too late.

Kind of how that big development at I-29 and Armour ended up too. And Zona Rosa could be so much better if they just added some hotels and residential etc.

Zona Rosa at least had promise and some decent retail and a focus at first. But the developer and MGNT group were not good. Never finished their master plan. Plus the whole area was left to slowly die and COVID and Retail Companies decided to bail on storefronts in a knee jerk reaction to Amazon and online sales. But the bad developer & Mgnt Group really killed it. Hoping the new Mgnt Group will continue to make strides and bring in more retailers & dining spots, as well as finish the residential.

Furniture Mall of Kansas will lease part of the former Macy's store at Metro North.
Metro North Crossing adds furniture store to replace Macy's
Part of the former Macy's in the Northland will add a Topeka-based furniture store chain as a tenant.
The fourth location of Furniture Mall will take over 150,000 square feet within Metro North Crossing. The chain also has locations in Olathe, Lee's Summit and Topeka.
Furniture Mall will begin "extensive renovations" on the building in April, according to a release. It will segment the square footage into different display rooms and add a café.
The store at 400 NW Barry Road is slated to open before the end of 2025, the release said.
