When P&L and Block building were announced, it was said that Block would expand in about 2010. Block would build on top of the buildings going on the north east corner of the block just to the west of the HQ.

I think it's just an option to expand if need be, not definitively.

btw, when i took these pics i had walked right into the building on a saturday and was directed to a security guard and talked with her about the art they have and how to get to the sculpture on the south side of the building. both guards i talked to were very cordial about me taking pics and very accommodating. they gave me a couple of handouts about the sculpture and said i could get a tour of what they have almost anytime during regular business hours. much more professional and courteous than the guards at the star.

what really seems to help when going around town taking pics is having a big ass pro looking camera with monopod attached. i never had a problem while carrying it around.

I like that at night you can see through the windows and into the building. Other downtown skyscrapers have windows that are merely reflective.

Where is the proposed second tower for HR Block suppose to be?....doesn't seem like there is much room left in the South Loop to develop with the PL district.

That building is as freeking awsome inside as it is out. They did a good job on the interior.

They really need to make some sort of official Public Parking sign with rates and hours that's prominently displayed outside every single parking lot downtown. I've gone by there millions of times and had no idea. I would never use it but it just fuels the fire of suburbanites trying to say that there's no parking.

I've read the sign for that public parking as I walk by...it talks about paying at the self service before/after parking....anybody used/witnessed the self-pay machine?

Hopefully that's what the new parking services dept. is working on.  They were just formed today.

At one time in my life, I thought I had a handle on the meaning of the word "service."

"It's the act of doing things for other people."

Then I heard these terms which reference the word SERVICE:

Internal Revenue Service
Postal Service
Telephone Service
Civil Service
City & County Public Service
Customer Service
Service Stations
Then I became confused about the word " service ."  This is not what I thought "service" meant.

So today, I overheard two farmers talking, and one of them said he had hired a bull to "service " a few of his cows.  BAM!  It all came into perspective.  Now I understand what all those "service" agencies are doing to us.

I hope you now are as enlightened as I am.

and here's what the new parking services director says to that:

""This is a much different approach than focusing on putting tickets on windshields. It's customer focused while considering the larger picture.""

Speeking of parking, What ever happened to free parking? Why has this concept went to the wayside? Yes I know Handicapped drivers park for free but why do the regular drivers have to pay out the noseholes to park. This makes no sense to me.

Why should parking be free or convenient? Go visit real cities like Hong Kong, London, Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, Seville, New York, Chicago, San Francisco et al .... and you'll see what I mean, and you'll also see that parking isn't really an important need in cities like those.

The effected area lies between 10th Street on the north, State Line Road on the west, Central Avenue on the east and Truman Road on the south. The east side of Central Avenue and the south side of Truman Road will continue to be the responsibility of the Kansas City Police Department’s Parking Control Unit.
can someone help me understand the logic? were they simply ignoring parking violations in this specific area before? is this just a trial area? why not the entire loop?

this is a complete guess but I think this is their trial area....they are taking this area away from KCPD parking and enforcing it with KCMO parking services.  I assume this is a trial balloon and will do all the loop when they have their ducks in a row.  again, this is just a guess.

that makes the most sense. i've asked my QH friends to keep an eye out if they notice anything different. technically, this would include the west bottoms, too, right? thanks!
