What denotes Vegas-style casinos? The oxygen tanks and sadness?

NASCAR track? Outlet mall?

Vegas is one of my favorite cities frequented at least twice a year. Hollywood casino you are not Vegas style.

Although its been years since I've been to a river boat, I was going to say that the pictures do provide the appearance of something much closer to Vegas style than I remember- moreso than the river boats, casinos around here, or Laughlin. However, you could drop New York New York or the Bellagio in KCK anywhere between LV and AC and it wouldn't come close to replicating the LV experience because you don't have the critical mass. LV casinos (strip or downtown) interact with the environment, and that is where the experience comes from.

from the blog:

"My initial impression after this first trip is that, if you are not a gambler, there isn't much else you can do there, except eat. In that respect, it reminds me of the Nebraska Furniture Mart. If you aren't going to buy furniture, there is nothing else to do."

Was present for a couple of hours today. As a "Vegas" style casino I can't really say. But itis a nice casino as opposed to being a dump. They were having a few "just opened" problems, like keeping their ticket cashing machines filled. Didn't eat there but at Cheeseburger's in Paradise (those onion strings are good).

Will probably try again when the crowds settle down but it won't be a regular stop.

Has anyone been?
I have heard it kind of sucks, I have heard there is only one bar on the whole casino floor, when you first walk-in is kind of weird, and I also heard the buffet is awful.

I walked through yesterday around noon.

Nothing special. About 95 percent of the casino floor is slot machines.

The lowest minimum bet I saw on a blackjack table was $15.

A very good crowd for noon - mainly old people.

Basically, just another casino - nothing to distinguish it from the other casinos in town.

Way at the back of the main floor there are about 20 feet of windows overlookiing the race track. They are definately not selling the race track tie in at all. Like most casinos they want zero windows - and lots of bells and wistles on the slots.

The Turn 2 bar was closed (opens at four), it may have a view of the racetrack.

The soccer stadium is a nice addition to village west. From the state street off ramp the schlitterbaum looks like a disaster. Really looked sad, but I ddin't drive over to get a closer look.

Nebraska furniture mart had a good crowd. Prices seemed high. I guess everything is going up these days.

Yeah, Schlitterbahm really needs an entrance that is nice, not the half-ass temporary one they have now. And I wonder if last summer's expansion (which I think never opened, at least not 100%) will be up and running this season? Finally, did they do any work over the 6+ weeks of mild weather recently? Very disappointing.

So does this place even compare to the bigger casinos in kcmo and stl? It sure as hell doesn't look like it from the pics.

Only been to Harrah's in St Lou and none of the locals seem to compare to that one, at least in the way of looks.

The Hollywood Casino looks nice but not all that fancy.
