I just don't see this route being successful unless it's timed to where people can book flights to the Pacific NW/Alaska/Inter Mountain or the northeast like Burlington Vermont. Most business travel will be on Delta and msp is such an easy drive from here it makes no sense for msp as a destination stop.
A nonstop on Sun Country to it's Focus City at DFW to sun destinations in central America/Caribbean would have made more sense.

Their flights to STL before Covid didn’t go well.
Does sun country still do some charters at KCI?
They will do all MLS charters this upcoming season. Not sure which airport the team goes out of though.
Cincinnati will announce a new airline tomorrow with rumors it’s British Airways. They already have Delta to Paris. Would be disappointing to get passed up for a city with existing service.

Would also be disappointing if this is all they are offering in incentives. I suppose there will likely be commitments made from local companies as well
The airport can offer up to $400,000 in marketing support for the first 12 months of nonstop, roundtrip passenger service to an unserved transatlantic or transpacific market. The airline must offer three departures per week or at least 156 departing flights. CVG can offer another $300,000 in marketing support for the second year and waive landing, gate use, ticket counter use and federal inspection service fees for up to 24 months. It offers up to $150,000 in marketing support to a carrier providing seasonal transatlantic or transpacific passenger service (two departures per week for a minimum of 16 consecutive weeks)
I think Cincinnati is an interesting market for International service, u basically have 12 million people within 2 hrs of CVG. MCI cannot compete with that kind of catchment area, KC has like 3.5 within within a 2 hr drive.
Incentives will be interesting to see. Those seem to matter more than anything if its close these days. If they could offer more than KCI then that will explain it pretty easily.

Cincinnati is surrounded by cities with Europe flights: Cleveland, Nashville, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago, STL.
That makes no sense. There are so many cities around Cincinnati with those flights and already has a European flight?
KC is literally the same size, has zero Euro flights, an incentive package and we're getting the World Cup. I just don't understand how they would get a second flight. Just mind boggling.

Existing flights show proven demand or a lack of it in some cases. Cincinnati is closer to LHR. Cincinnati has some big businesses that have previously guaranteed ticket sales to get flights. Delta only flies Paris 3 times weekly leaving space in a strong market for a 2nd airline to fly 3-5 weekly in summer.
Disappointing to hear if true. Cincinnati is stagnant growth, low ball incentives package, already with a TATL and surrounded by other gateways but I suppose it's a proven market.
Looks like we're stuck lobbying Delta for CDG and getting Icelandair to come back. I don't see BA adding another Midwestern city for a while after this unless we're successful in 2024. No way they'll add CVG, IND and MCI. It's one out of the 3. For sure a blow to IND and CMH.
If KC wants to boost its odds, we're going to have to play the long game by boosting FDI and above all land an HQ that does business abroad. Incentives only go so far. It seems the city is doing everything except making KC more economically competitive and a place people with money and travel needs want to be in. New terminal, 2026 WC, Downtown Baseball, South Loop Deck, streetcar etc but what about white collar job growth and attracting talent/investment? I don't think anyone on Walnut knows how to do that. Can't even keep what we have.

Exactly, they're not even growing at all either. It just makes no sense.
I can understand losing to IND, although I'd disagree with it -- but a stagnant Cincinnati getting a second Euro flight for doing nothing is just mind-boggling. Non-sensical.
Our airport leadership has begged for a new terminal for decades with the understanding that this is what is needed to sell the airlines on expanded service. If they can’t close the sale after getting the pile of cash for the airport, they need to be replaced.

And then other cities built new terminals AND raised massive piles of cash
