Southwest adding red eye flights, premium seating, and assigned seats. Will be interesting to see how this impacts their operations. Will they further consolidate towards hub operations?

I don't fly southwest that much but kind of hated how people would save entire rows up front for friends/family that were B or C. If u want to save seats do it in the back

Also think a lot of people abusing the wheelchair pre boarding to get better seats. Maybe assigned seats will crack down on this.

Things like this made me stop flying SW also, I'll be trying them again if I can get an assigned seat.

Mayor Q, Laura Kelly, Gov Parson all attended Farnborugh Airshow last week in UK for job development/aviation development. More tweets from Q about lack of international flights. Appreciate him continuing to push this need.

I personally think the point to point flying is one of their biggest draws. People will take nonstops over connections usually. If they go more hubby they will lose flyers.

Southwest schedule for March came out today. LGB apparently is permanently cut. Saw SJD is 5x a week though so that is nice.

Nashville Business Journal reporting they were selected for a new Europe flight pending final approval for the airline group’s board of directors. Aer Lingus or Discover had been rumored in previous releases.

Business journal says Lufthansa Group to Frankfurt. Likely a Discover A330 with 3x weekly service.

^this flight makes no sense to me at all. The Germans are desperate for flights? Just don't see a big market here. Nashville is kind of a blah place to visit if they expect Germans to flock to Nashville.

Think it’s a mix of Nashville sales and German sales. Nashville can support TATL as they continue to grow and Discover opens up the entire Lufthansa network of connections.

Frankfurt is a huge hub in Europe and Nashville is becoming a good sized hub in middle America.

And as much hate as there is for Nashville, the city is going be huge in the coming decades and is already a major business center and tourism destination.

I find it fascinating how a city can come out of nowhere and boom like that. It was not that long ago that Omaha had more going on than Nashville. (Although Omaha seems to be laying some groundwork to maybe become a mini boom city themselves).

Nashville is not my cup of tea either, but it's quickly becoming a major powerhouse. I mean Atlanta is the same deal. Not all that appealing, yet it's now one of the largest metro areas in the country with one of the busiest airports in the world.

KC's lack of corporate HQs is the only thing keeping KC from getting direct fights to Europe.

Baby Boomer Germans LOOOVE playing Cowboys and Indians. See the Wikipedia article on Native Americans in German popular culture. Now, I don't know if that means modern country music is equally popular in Germany with the younger crowds, but... that connection explains why they'd want a direct flight to BNA about as well as any other.

BNA Nashville also has a decent hard product -- a nice terminal, even if a bit dated, plus clubs for all of the major alliances (AA, DL, and now with the LH nonstop, some kind of supply for UA). I am still irritated that neither UA nor AA built a lounge at the new MCI.

BNA 102 non stop destinations, MCI 61. MCI nice new terminal. BNA expansion of terminal, parking, hotel connected to terminal, provision for light rail, MCI 2023 a bit over 11 million pax, BNA over 22 million. BNA 100 mile radius about a million more population than MCI.

BNA may be a bit dated but they are spending $1.5 billion on improvements.
