Real PD: Kansas City has been running on the ID network (part of Discovery). It's actually centered on the KCK police department, and the first two episodes I saw were pretty grim - trailer park shooting and narcotics busts - showing a lot of the unpolished reality of some of the rougher neighborhoods in KCK. There are a few nice shots of the metro from above, with downtown KCMO in the background.

A new Sylvester Stallone TV series will be set in Kansas City. It's not known if it will be filmed here however.

Sylvester Stallone Set To Star In Taylor Sheridan & Terence Winter Drama Series ‘Kansas City’ For Paramount+ From 101 Studios & MTV Ent. Studios
Deadline understands that the actor, whose Rocky won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1977, is in negotiations to star in and exec produce Kansas City, a drama series from Taylor Sheridan and Terence Winter for Paramount+.
...
Kansas City follows a New York City Italian mobster, played by Stallone, forced to relocate to the most unlikely of places—Kansas City, Missouri. Set in present day, legendary mobster Sal (Stallone) is faced with the startling task of reestablishing his Italian mafia family to the modernized, straight-shooting town of Kansas City. There, Sal encounters surprising and unsuspecting characters who follow him along his unconventional path to power.

Shooting on “Kansas City” hasn’t started, and there’s no word yet if any scenes will be filmed in the city that gives the show its name. Few TV shows and movies set in Kansas City were actually filmed here, as producers seek better financial incentives elsewhere.

This gives an idea of possible tone (production/writing). Will be surprising if filmed in KC but would be nice to at least get plenty of cut scene shots. BTW, Sunday night Chiefs/Broncos game had fantastic night shots of KC, looked more photogenic than ever.
“Kansas City” is the latest scripted series Sheridan has set up since extending his rich overall deal with ViacomCBS back in February. In addition to the smash hit Paramount Network series “Yellowstone,” Sheridan also has the prequel series “1883” coming to Paramount Plus on Dec. 19. Most recently, Sheridan’s Jeremy Renner-led drama “Mayor of Kingstown” debuted on Nov. 14 on Paramount Plus.

Winter is known for his work on shows such as “The Sopranos,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and “Vinyl,” all of which aired on HBO. He has also written films such as “The Wolf of Wall Street,” for which he earned an Academy Award nomination for best adapted screenplay.

The aerial shots of downtown were great! That’s what I was referring to about the calls for a new stadium downtown having to face the skyline-not needed with the ability to produce shots like that during the game.

Huge miss should the stadium not face the skyline, when we could very easily have a viable site for it

How a city is promoted on TV is 100% on the network, not the city or the location of the stadium. SNF seems to do a really good job at showing off the home city. They did great with the KC/Denver game for sure and KC really does look great from the air. MNF is not as good for some reason.

There are times when a stadium is right downtown and they don't show anything but the stadium and times when a stadium is far from the city and they show off the city like they did with KC/Denver.

I don't think anybody said KC had to have a skyline backdrop for TV. I think having a skyline backdrop is simply amazing for fans in the stadium. I mean it's hard to even watch a game in Pittsburgh if you have good views of the skyline. But I'm a city nerd, so I can stare at a skyline for hours.

Oklahoma seems to be an emerging hotbed for Christian/Faith Based movies. American Underdog, the new movie coming about Kurt Warner was mainly filmed in OKC. "I can only imagine" was another one filmed back in 2018

Was not sure where to put this, but this video of walking around downtown KC is pretty fun to watch and it's very recent.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctEJMHs ... WjpHJFT4bl

Speaking of youtube, there is some JoCo dude called "I know de Wey brudda" that literally trolls every single video about KCMO on youtube and trashes the city.

I swear, JoCo produces some real assholes. I don't miss that place.

I am very interested in the how the show "Kansas City" will represent Kansas City. From what I've read from the synopsis, there is a subtle slap to KC's history in the shows premise. The idea is that KC is a trendy and modern but yet backwater place where a mobster from NY can disappear and start anew. What I don't understand is how, after the most recent Fargo series and the movie Casino, people (and especially Hollywood) cannot know that KC has always been a city with a surprisingly large mafia presence (maybe not so large now - but still in place). While that's nothing to be proud of, it does kind of fit in with KC's history as an early industrial city in the US that attracted a lot of immigrants which also included a large Sicilian contingent.

I'm just curious how this show will represent the city? As a smallish backwater town devoid of an urban history until a contemporary growth spurt? It is a purely fictional story but how it represents the city should be at least factual.

I caught this commercial and couldnt help notice. Apparently they prefer our skyline to St. Louis.

Its just that the StL skyline from the west is not so great. BTW, that KC skyline is from the south, but reversed.

The Stallone 'Kansas City' show has been redefined and no longer set in KC but rather Oklahoma.

Biggest reason cited was MO not having film tax credits

Was there even a history of Italian mob in Tulsa? Kansas City and the mob was a huge deal, pretty stupid, hope the whole project is scrapped once they realize Stallone cannot act.

Or maybe they realized, on top of no tax credits, that the KC mob was a thing & it would be silly to have a mobster hiding out here without knowing it was a stronghold & the Northland still has a ton of families up there.

The HBO max show Somebody Somewhere is set in Manhattan KS, references to KS, Lawrence, kstate gear, Chiefs, KU, varsity donuts, think it's filmed in Chicago area but the main actress is from Manhattan, Bridgett Everett
