Pro-Arena protest/rally Monday August 2nd

There is a mass rally/Enterprise protest being organized for August 2nd to show support for the downtown stadium. Here is the info.

When: August 2nd 7:30a and also evening rush hour (will post time when received)
Where: 2 Enterprise locations. 6th & Grand and 35th & Main

Contact downtownarena@yahoo.com to volunteer and they will give you directions on where to meet and pick up signs.

I'll post more information as I receive it.

This is the time for all the downtown supporters to step up to the plate and put their money where their mouth is. We've got to show up strong for this!!! This is such a critical vote, and the idiots at Enterprise need to realize that they are alienating a significant consumer base by through their support of the anti-tax group. Hope to see everyone there!

I'll be the one with the McFadden-Weaver mask on!!!

What time does the evening rally start and where should people meet?

Here's the info I got back..

The rally will take place Monday August 2, 2004 at two locations, 600 Grand Avenue (6th and Main) and also 3543 Main Street both of these sites are the Downtown Enterprise Rent-A-Car locations. The pro-arena rally (anti-enterprise) will take place at 7:30am till 9:00am and also from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. We will have signs ready, a bullhorn and also flyers to pass out. RSVP (to downtownarena@yahoo.com) for a location and a time (so we can ensure we have enough people).

I am going to the morning rally at 6th & Grand. Will alkso try to make it to the evening one at the same location but not sure if I can.

I'm pretty sure where he says "6th & Main" in his email that that's a typo, it would be 6th & Grand.

no, its 6th and Main, it's just north of the Fidelity Ntl. Bank Tower. (the Enterprise Car Rental)

I heard there is only 4 people signed up so far...????? COME ON PEOPLE. Everyone on this site needs to sign up. We've got to get our voices heard! There is no reason we should not have 40-50 people signed up!

Also, looking for ideas for signage. Such as "We despise enterprise!" etc...any ideas?

the rhyming between "lies" and "Enterprise" is a convenient place to start re: signage.

unfortunately, no. i would totally be there, but i live in columbia and can't take off work to be there.

ONLY FOUR?????

There's no excuse for anyone on this forum who lives in the downtown area and supports the arena to not sign up for this.

I've heard some question whether focusing on the negative of enterprise is the right way...

maybe that's why less people have signed up????

I plan on doing something sometime.

I know the centurions (who is that?) are gathering on the Plaza one night this week to rally the arena.

I signed up, but I am personally NOT planning to carry an Anti-Enterprise sign.

I think it makes the point just to host the event at enterprise.

I think the signs should be something like

"More Jobs for KC"
"Yes to Downtown Arena"
"Save Downtown"

etc.

any word on the plaza gathering

That's a good point. Is this a pro-arena rally that happens to be done near Enterprise to make a point, or is this an anti-Enterprise rally? It makes a big difference.

I signed up for the 4:30pm rally at 35th & Main. C'mon people, I live in JOCO (Overland Park) and am goin' to the rally. Where's all the KCMO peeps?!?!

If anyone is heading from the Topeka/Lawrence area to the protest...holla at a playa (message me) and maybe we can organize some sort of car pool from the KS 'burbs and exurbs.
