The renderings on KCBJ suggest the cap will cover the entire trench, but what about ventilation? I'm worried they may have narrow it to accommodate exhaust ventilation.

It doesn’t seem long enough to call for full vent system. I’d imagine they likely put in those tube type fans to blow exhaust out each end.

Think something like this.

The better aim should be to get it done by summer 2026 World Cup.

Literally every single person, even the casual KC resident who doesn't pay much attention, is jubilant about this project. Except the KC Star. It's insane.

Yup. The day they pack up for good will be a win for the city.

I mean if it's possible (edit: and I don't see how it physically is) cap 'em both, lol. Cap or remove the whole damn thing.

Yep.

I don't read the Star and have not read their take on this. The Star seems totally irreverent to KC now and I would not even call it a major paper now. It's crazy how that news source has destroyed itself. It was once a very good news source. Do they even have 25 employees now and are any of them in KCMO?

If the stadium is going to east loop, the freeway absolutely has to rebuilt anyway and if you are going to rebuild it, then may as well find a way to improve it.

The east loop could and should be covered, but that would also require the total reconstruction of the southeast corner of the loop to level everything out and reverse some of the ramps vertically. The 71 connections would have to be tunneled. The entire loop needs to be rebuilt anyway.

8th to 10th might be possible. Ideally the state should upgrade the 71 to Interstate 49 and rebuild to make up for the capacity they will lose with North Loop Removal. A LRT stop in the median would lead up to a renovated Jurassic Park and a new Royals stadium. If there's really gonna be a stadium in East Village then transit access has to be a priority.

It's certainly frustrating, but to just state that KC would be a better place without a major, local paper -- couldn't be more off-base.

The bananas thing is that the editorial calls for capping the loop to the east to spur redevelopment. But given the Star's recent editorials, it's likely they would oppose that redevelopment as gentrification.
